The Werribee Football Club congratulates Michael Barlow on winning the Fothergill-
Round medal for 2009. The medal is awarded in honour of Des Fothergill and Barry
Round who are the only players to win both the J.J. Liston trophy and the Brownlow
Medal. The medal is awarded to the most promising young talent (under 23) in the VFL
competition.
Barlow has had another outstanding season for the Tigers and has been invited to the
State Draft Screening. He made his debut in 2008 and had an immediate impact.
Previous winners of the medal include Werribee’s James Puli in 1997, Aaron Davey,
Michael Firrito and last year Robin Nahas.
Werribee Senior Coach Simon Atkins is full of praise for the medallist “He works really
hard on his games and the standard he sets for himself is very high. He is a natural
footballer with a great work ethic and is very much team orientated”
Barlow is delighted with the award “It is great to be recognised like this from an
individual point of view but we missed finals and that’s what footy is all about”.
Michael will receive his medal at the Liston Trophy Presentation On September 14th
