Warrnambool Camp 2006
It was decided to hold our pre-season camp at Warrnambool this year to familiarise ourselves with the venue for our game against the Casey Scorpions on Saturday 27th May.
The venue was ideal (Deakin University) providing each individual with their own room, access to an oval with lighting, 9-hole golf course and also close to the water for some of the activities that Simon and the coaching staff had prepared for the camp.
After settling in on the Friday evening and placed into teams, the boys were woken at midnight by an air horn for their first session. It was very solid with a number of interesting drills taking place on the football oval under lights.
The boys then wandered off to bed, thinking they would meet again for breakfast at 8am. They were in for a rude shock! They were back up at 6am running sand dunes and dragging car tyres along the beach, etc. This session was definitely one of the hardest.
Mid-morning they were back into it with some water activities involved, brickwork, boxing and various other duties. The sight of some of the teams trying to work out how to manoeuvre their dinghy around the circuit was a classic! One team got so far out we thought a passing cruiser might have to tow them in.
After lunch the boys then had another solid session on the main oval. Saturday evening was a bit lighter with a meeting held and then the boys were able to relax with cards, a few ales and a night game of cricket. Most of the boys were in their rooms catching up on some sleep by 11pm and were expecting to hear the air horn at some stage early in the morning.
6am Sunday they went down to the golf course and played quick 9-holes. After breakfast they assembled to go down to Reid Oval (where we are playing Casey Scorpions) for a skills session before heading back to the University for a barbecue and a final tally up of the teams points for the camp.
All in all, it was a very enjoyable camp where much team bonding was gained and everyone is now looking forward to the up-coming practice matches.
Werribee play Williamstown on Friday March 10 from 4pm at Whitten Oval. Some Werribee players will be involved in the Bulldogs intra club game on February 17th.
