Star Werribee Tigers midfielder Robert Castello is teaching school students the fundamentals of our great Australian game.
Employed by AFL Victoria and the Werribee Football Club as its Development Officer, Castello will visit primary schools focusing in the Wyndham region, the Tigers backyard.
The school visits will include a football clinic, a focus on the AFLÃf¢Ã,ÂTMs 1Seven healthy lifestyle program and promotion of the VFL competition and the Werribee Football Club.
Castello will also work with the Western Jets and its development programs and run clinics at local Auskick centres. The Wyndham region includes nine Auskick centres catering for more than 1,000 children.
Werribee Football Club General Manager Mark Penaluna said the priority for the program would always be local schools.
"This pilot program aims to strengthen and build our ties to the local community and the schools." Penaluna said.
"We want to engage local children and youth to identify with the club and motivate local players to want to play with the club in the long-term."
Castello said he enjoyed bringing a smile to the faces of the children he visited in schools.
"It is great to visit the local primary schools in the Wyndham region," Castello said.
"It is a great chance to encourage people to watch a VFL match at Batercard Oval and become part of the Werribee Football Club and talk about some lifestyle issues as well.
"Hopefully, we can unearth some future Werribee Tigers players too."
