In the first quarter Aspley dominated
- helped by kicking with the wind. We gave our forwards shots on goal; the
centerline blocked up the middle well enough to give their opponents only one
or two forward entries, when the ball entered Aspley’s back fifty it was
quickly rebounded.
First Quarter Score:
Aspley 10 - Coorparoo 0
Second
Quarter
Coorparoo made a fight back kicking an
early goal. Aspley responded with a goal ourselves keeping the score at the
same margin. But the determination and attack seemed to disappear a bit.
Half Time Score:
Aspley 17 - Coorparoo 7
Third Quarter
This
proved to be the worst quarter for Aspley. The midfield failed to win the ball and while
the backline fought hard, the ball did not leave Aspley’s back fifty. Aspley’s
teamwork and ability to win the ball from the first two quarters faded. Coorparoo took advantage and came back into
the game to trail by only 1 point at three quarter time.
Third Quarter Score:
Aspley 17 - Coorparoo 16
Fourth Quarter
After
the first quarter it looked like it was going to be an easy victory for Aspley,
but it turned sour all too quickly. Aspley
were staring defeat in the face. Peter
Goeldner, the team’s coach, made some key positional switches and the team
switched back on.
Aspley
walked on the field and dominated, Dylan kicked his second goal to start the
tirade, and the umpire gave away enough fifty metre penalties in Aspley’s favor
to keep the ball bottled up in the forward fifty. The midfielders worked hard clearing the ball
a lot and not giving Coorparoo any chances to fight back. The backs did not have to do too much but
when the ball started to come towards the Coorparoo goal they cleared quickly,
and accurately, giving the midfielders time and possession to give it back to
the forwards.
End Score:
Aspley 29 - Coorparoo 16
