Guest Speakers: Terry Daniher & Barry Round
Terry Daniher successfully played with both South Melbourne and Essendon and achieved everything from captaining Essendon in back to back premierships and playing over 300 games to captaining Victoria and being part of the All-Australian representative tours to Ireland.
A great Essendon captain, who was aggressive, versatile and led by example, Daniher was extremely mobile, took a good mark and could hold down any position.
In 1983 Daniher became captain of Essendon, a position in which he inspired all. He led the Bombers from the half forward flank to premierships in both 1984 and 1985. He also skippered the Dons from full forward to the 1981 and 1984 night premiership victories.
He won Essendon's best and fairest award in 1982, was runner up in 1987 and third in the award in 1983 and 1984. Daniher played 71 consecutive games between 1981 and 1984.
The dual-premiership player was Essendon's top goal kicker in 1979 with 57 goals and in 1983 with 64 goals. He was also second top in 1978 and 1984 and third top in 1987. Daniher was selected in the State side in 1979 and then in every year from 1983 to 1987 and captained the State team in 1985, 1986 and 1987. He was also named in the All-Australian team in 1983, 1984 and 1985 and was captain in 1985.
The highly respected former Essendon champion joined the Saints after spending 2003 as an assistant coach at Collingwood and the previous four years as the Bombers’ VFL coach, including leading them to the premiership in his first year at the helm in 1999. He captained the Bombers for 127 games including the 1984 and 1985 flags. Daniher also skippered Victoria and Australia, and was named on a half-forward flank in Essendon’s Team of the Century.

Barry Round with a heart to match his colossal 193 cm, 99kg frame it would seem reasonable to suppose that he was always destined to carve out an illustrious career for himself in his chosen sport. Over the course of his 193 game, ten season stint with the Swans, Round proved himself without peer as a ruckman, while for good measure he could hold down centre half forward with as much aplomb as anyone. Barry Round played for Footscray and South Melbourne/Sydney in the Victorian Football League between 1969 and 1985. Along the way, he played 328 games (135 for Footscray and 193 for South Melbourne/Sydney), won a Brownlow Medal in 1981 (tying with his former teammate Bernie Quinlan) and was the Swans' first captain during the Sydney era. After retirement from VFL football, he played and coached for several years for Williamstown in the Victorian Football Association where he participated in both their 1986 and 1990 premiership teams. He won the Association Best and Fairest award, the J. J. Liston Trophy, in 1987. He was chosen to lead the rucks in Williamstown's official 'Team of the Century'.
In 2001 Round was inducted into the Australian Football Hall of Fame with a citation that read: Lion-hearted big man who represented Footscray and Sydney with distinction. Round won the Swans best and fairest award on two occasions and was a 'shoe-in' as first ruckman in the club's official 'Team of the Twentieth Century' announced in 2003.
