The boys travelled to Redlands this week for a top of the table versus bottom of the ladder clash with the Sharks. After a couple of close loses in past weeks and with the finals coming up, it was important the boys had a convincing win to get some belief back in themselves.
A first quarter dominated by Michael in the ruck and with Jimmy having a great game in the midfield saw the boys controlling possession around the ground. A couple of quick goals to Lincoln saw the boys hit the lead early and they never looked like relinquishing it. The back line held firm and impressed coach Derek by holding out the Redland attack and not allowing them to score a goal in the first quarter. With Jordan running creatively around the half forward line, the boys skipped out to a similar lead to what they held last week by the first change.
Derek explained it was important they did not concede an easy goal to Redland and continue to pile on the pressure. Jimmy continued to be hard at the ball in the midlfield and with Michael continuing to dominate the ruck contests, Lincoln and Reece were giving the forward line plenty of opportunities. Ryan was playing well in his new position on the wing and Jaydon looked creative in his new home at half back. EB added some hardness at the ball when he came on in the second quarter and the boys increased their lead coming to the half.
Derek was happy to see that the boys did not concede an easy goal and the third quarter got underway with the boys continuing to dominate around the ground. Some good play from Patrick saw the ball travel from one of the ground to the other and another goal for the Pumas. Even though it was a warm day, the boys continued to show plenty of run into attack and with Daniel and Jordan seeing plenty of ball across half forward the boys ran out comfortable winners.
Next week is a top of the table clash between the young Pumas and Aspley and a chance for redemption. Hopefully just like every other top of the table clash the boys have had this year, they will run out victorious.
