Club History
The Coomera Magpies Australian Football Club, based on the Gold Coast was formed in November 2009 and in 2010 competed in the 2010 State Assosiation Division 3 Central competition fielding one team.
After a tireless summer inaugural Captain/coach Damian Hofert lead the Magpies to play their first game on the 16th of May 2010, against Yeronga. The Magpies went on to win the clash 14.5.89 to 4.6.30 with Hofert kicking the first ever goal only minutes into the game.
The club had a succsessful first season, picking up major sponsor STACER MARINE and finishing the home and away season 2nd on the ladder, with 8 wins and 4 losses. Coomera played in their first ever final against the undefeated Jimboomba Redbacks at Glen Logan Park. After putting up a great fight they eventually went down by 3 goals. Jimboomba would go on to be premiers.
Coomera played the reigning premiers "The Woodsmen" the following week but were defeated and knocked out of the finals race.
After having overwhelming support from the local community and player numbers to high to cater for the Coomera Magpies applied to enter and were accepted into the AFLQ State Association DIV 2 for the 2011 season. This allowed the club to field a reserves team and start an under 18's side which provided a pathway into senior football for young footballers in the Northern Gold Coast.
Proud of their amateur status the Coomera Magpies started the 2011 season with a bang electing Garry Smith as president (who at the age of 26 would be the youngest president in Australia) and naming several big name players from the higher divisions in the area. With players coming in there droves to be a part of Coomera Magpies history Damian Hofert was named as senior coach for the second year with Paul Mitting Coaching the reserves and John Walsh, a well known local specialty youth coach taking on the enormous task of setting up the under 18's.
During 2011 the Coomera Magpies have established themselves as a revered opponent, a family club and a respected community group. Being the Gold Coast face of the "Donated for you State" campaign ran by the red cross as well as running the Coomera Magpies Flood Cleanup and Relief Drive which collected and distributed 2 Semi loads of Furniture, bedding, toys and food to flood effected families.
The 2011 Season on field sore the Club seniors finish 4th, reserves 5th and 18's 7th. The seniors winning the first final against Caboolture by 20 points.
