Woodsmen AFC is a socially minded team, but we take our footy very seriously and enjoy healthy competition. Our training is as relaxed or as intense as each individual chooses to make it, and nobody is judged on which option they choose!
Woodsmen were founded in 2008 after Western Magpies were promoted to State League. Inaugural year was 2009, with then President, Laurie Nipperess, and Coach, Billy Peirce. We were Premiers 2009, League B&F Winner 2009 was Adam Peel, and Inaugural Captain was Sean Toohey.
We’ve had 87 listed players go through our books in 5 seasons aged from 17 to 51. We’ve played finals in every season we’ve been in the competition, and have played in 2 Grand Finals for 1 Premiership.
We have players with State League experience, O&M Experience, TAC Cup Experience and VFL Reserves experience. Selection is not always merit based, we do like to ensure everyone plays some footy and every year we generally have at least 5 or 6 blokes completely new to the game who compete for the prestigious Rising Woodie Trophy.
90% of our games are played on Friday nights against clubs generally in the immediate vicinity, allowing players to keep weekends free for their families or work.
