While it was not the best road trip for the Maroochydore on the weekend there were some pleasing results with our up-and-coming talent.
Palm Beach Currumbin was last year’s runners up and it was never going to be an easy task for our seniors to get over the line.
Solid efforts from Kane Tyson, Sam Panoho, Jed Turner, Andrew Maskell-Duastan and Joshua McPherson were duly noted and rightly awarded best on field alongside Declan Magill.
Magill also bagged two goals with Scott Hay booting another two in an attempt to keep the deficit to a minimum.
PBC run out winners 23.21.159 to 77.9.51 in a convincing display on their home turf.
The reserves were dealt much the same fate earlier going down 20.13.133 to 6.6.42 that was attributed to a very slow start only kicking 1.1.7 in the first quarter.
With six individual goal kickers the boys will need to find a more reliable option this week when they take on Surfers Paradise on the Gold Coast.
Best on ground recipients were Daniel Hall, Adam Marr, Bryce Judd, Jake Weikhardt, Michael Williams and Andrew Wass.
Unlike a few of the other teams, our Division Four boys had no worries finding the middle of the sticks cruising to a 52 point victory over the Gympie Cats.
Brendan Robins and Jeremy Cockram both booted four of the best showing some consistency and proving valuable targets up forward.
The boys will this week head down to North Street, Caloundra to take on the Panthers who are currently on top of the table.
The most impressive team performance over the weekend was the Under 18 Division One Cup boys who had another easy victory over, this time over PBC.
Keegan Hoskin led the way booting four goals to keep the score board ticking over and earning him votes for best on ground.
Nick Selman, Matthew Armstrong and Jacob Simpson were also multiple goal scores slotting through two of the best each to bring their team goal kicking tally to 17 by the final siren.
The boys ran out winners 17.16.118 to 4.2.26 in a score line that could have been disastrous for the PBC boys had the Maroochydore boys been kicking more accurately.
Alongside Hoskin and Armstrong best on ground kudos went to Jacob Chapman, Jacob Simpson, Callum Lee and Harry White.
Our Under 18s Division Two boys fought hard but could not overcome a strong Caloundra/Caboolture outfit on the weekend
The boys went down 17.17.119 to 6.5.41 in beautiful Sunshine Coast weather conditions unlike the last couple of weeks.
Best on ground honours went to Sam Wilson, Chase Shaw, Mitch Habgood and Zac Clancy.
Under 18s registrar, Greg Bold has played a crucial part in the development of the Under 18s segment of the Roos along with other volunteers and is impressed with what they have present in season 2012 so far.
“The Division One boys have a huge strength in their running game and they are able to move the ball really quickly and efficiently across the field,” Bold said.
“They also have a good mixture of a lot of different players in regards to height and ability and have gelled together really well since the beginning of the season.
“These boys are from lot of different clubs across the Coast so it has been really impressive they way they have worked together so far especially converting that success to on field successes.
“We play Surfers Paradise this weekend and that will be the big test as they are what we view as the front runners in the competition along with the Western Magpies.
“Our Division Two boys have been the talking point of the season after we recruited heavily early in the year to get this team off the ground to save boys from missing out each week.
“These boys are being nurtured into Division One and will provide significant stability for our club in the coming years.”
Congratulations to the following Maroochydore boys who have been selected in the Queensland State Under 16 Scorpions Squad:Tom Buckle, William Kristelly, Brandon Maki and Cameron Stevenson.
