Maroochydore AFC will be kicking off their 2012 Life Skills Program this Thursday evening.
Part one of the program will examine safe driving and consequences from bad decision making on our roads
Maroochydore Australian Football Club continue their Life Skills Program for all players, parents and supporters this week by examining the attitudes of today’s drivers.
With an increasing trend in the number of car accidents on the Sunshine Coast, the club is targeting safe driving this Thursday at Fishermans Road.
President, Craig Scrase, said that this program offers players, members, and the community to see the education link between AFL and community issues.
“The Life Skills Program has been running for a year or two now and we have received a lot of positive feedback from players, parents and the community about how relevant the issues are,” Scrase said.
“The program has been established to target the Under 18 playing group but is relevant to all players through to the Seniors, stressing the importance of such things as road safety, drug abuse, financial management, and healthy lifestyle choices.
“We have a unique opportunity through the footy Club to get all these kids in the same room and pass on information in a professional environment.
“This week Senior Constable, Garry Church from the Queensland Forensic Crash Unit will be a key note guest speaker along with a senior ambulance officer and another young guest speaker who was involved in a multiple fatality a few years back and survived.”
The focus this week will be on road safety for all road users with an emphasis on the consequences of poor decision making on the road can have disastrous effects on the entire community.
“It is a timely message that we need not just our players but the community to understand, road safety is important and we will actively continue to promote its importance at Maroochydore Roos Australian Football Club,” Scrase said.
The first instalment of the Maroochydore AFC Life Skills Program will kick off this Thursday night, June 14 from 7pm with a Club BBQ with the presentation starting at 7:30pm sharp.
