The Maroochydore Roos had a tough weekend out on Fishermans Road with more than wet conditions forcing the cancellation of some games across South East Queensland.
With the conditions less than perfect the seniors were overpowered by Mayne after leading for the first quarter and only trailing by seven at the main break.
Jed Turner and Jarryd Hill booted two goals each keeping the score line respectable but not enough eventually going down 5.7.37 to 10.5.65.
Among the best players were Jed Turner, Kane Tyson, Sam Panoho, Jarryd Hill, Sam Barnes and James Page doing their bit to keep the deficit to 28 points.
The Seniors sit in ninth place on the ladder with a percentage of 50.69 as they look towards this weekend travelling to Salk oval to take on last year’s runners-up Palm Beach Currumbin.
Club President Craig Scrase said that although the boys played a solid game it highlighted some of their weaknesses.
“The boys played a good game, however two losses first up hopefully have drummed home the lesson about working for one another and that the ball is too hard to win and to give it up so easily through poor disposal,” Scrase said.
The Maroochydore Reserves met the same fate falling short by six points in a match that they led up until half time but did not score in the second half, in what was a fiercely contested battle.
In a low scoring affair Mayne ran out winners 4.4.28 to 3.4.22.
The rain wreaked havoc on the Reserves but Mitch Webb managed to bag two with Layton Cooper slotting one through as well.
Best on ground was awarded to Daniel Hall, Jake Weikhardt, Nigel Baker, Michael Williams, Jake Lindley and Justin Modra.
It was a different story for our Under 18s who, for lack of a better word, belted Mayne in an outing that can only be described as an awesome display of athletic capabilities.
The boys kept Mayne scoreless until the last quarter easily accounting for the tigers, 14.16.100 to 1.1.7.
In what could have been a more damaging score line the boys defiantly had opportunity to capitalise further but Hayden Smoothey was happy with his bag of four goals with Hayden Matthews and Griffin Douglas kicking three each.
Jacob Chapman and Jacob Simpson also contributed to the 14 goals with two each to share the kicking spree around.
Now sitting in second spot on the ladder with a strong percentage of 386.54 they line up against Palm Beach Currumbin this weekend.
The Division Two Under 18 side did not have it quite so easy with a hard fought match not accurately reflected in the score line against Nambour and Hinterland.
The Roos came away with the win 14.9.93 to 8.11.59 but only had a lead of five points going into the last quarter after the Blues led for the first half of the match.
Mitch Habgood was a standout kicking five goals and made the Blues pay for their wasted opportunities in the third quarter kicking with the breeze.
They are now one game clear on top of the table and face the Caloundra, Caboolture combination this weekend at North Street, Caloundra.
President, Craig Scrase said that the Division Two Under 18s have been a really good example of what the Club is capable of.
“Their win on the weekend was their best win to date as they gutsed it out all day and came out with the win,” Scrase said.
“These boys have been the success story of the Club as they were sort of thrown together at the last minute and they are doing really well.”
The Division Four boys had the weekend off with a bye and will travel to Gympie this weekend to play the Cats.
