When you see Lucas Matthews at home in Coolum with his lovely partner Hayley, with 4 week old son Will asleep in the pram and dog Juddy running around the tree lined yard, you see a man pretty content with his lot in life.
Throw in the fact that he is excited about footy for the first time in a while, and won't be driving to Brisvegas each week to train and play and 2010 cant come quick enough for our latest recruit.
Lucas was raised in Raywood which is a small town North of Bendigo where he started playing footy for Northern United in the Under 12's as an 8 year old because they had no Auskick program and that was just what you did to have a kick. Playing in the under 15's and under 18's followed and young Luke took home the B&F every year for 7 years - fair effort!
Lucas moved to playing Under 18's and then 2 seasons of Senior football at Eaglehawk where he added another 2 B&F's and a League Medal - sadly to this day his over bulging trophy cabinet doesnt hold a Premiership Medal.
From Eaglehawk it was off to the ACT in 2003 to play with local power club Ainslie where he played 3 seasons with 1 B&F and 2 Runners-Up before seeing the light and coming to play at Noosa in 2006 and 2007 where he got to play in the 2006 Grand Final.
In 2008 Luke took the year off to travel (followed the Tour De France around) and spent the time necessary to maintain his then commuting relationship with Hayley (she lived in Sydney)
2009 saw our returning midfielder in Aspley colours where he took home the B&F and finished 5th in the Grogan Medal which is a great achievement given his "marked for a tagger" status each week.
Lucas is genuinely excited about being back at Noosa and is looking forward to joining the boys after returning from Vic in January.
Away from footy he manages the local branch of BOC Gases and when not spending quality family time he loves keeping fit, Bike Riding and a bit of boxing.
At a club that prides itself on having a fantastic bunch of blokes in its playing ranks, Lucas Matthews appears to fit that criteria to a tee and we all look forward to seeing him running around at Noosa as we strive to go one better in 2010.
