Matt Somers is still 18 but he certainly has an active life and is looking forward to putting on the Tigers jumper again and running around with his mates. He could end up being our ârecruitâ of the year after spending 2008 with Zilmere Eagles in Division 1.
After the annual line-up of Division 1 clubs lined up for our young talent, Matt chose Zilmere and whilst complimentary of them, reckons playing with his mates such as Leachy, Gabe & Nick and the great older players he played with in 2007 will make season 2009 more enjoyable.
After 5 Senior games with the Eagles, Matt was downed by a season ending shoulder injury and so it was sit at home feeling sorry for himself or â¦. Go to Japan to pursue his other passion Snow Boarding.
For the uninitiated thatâs riding a board â with fins (only 2) like a surf board down ski slopes and just as wake boarding took water skiing to a new level so has snow boarding on the white cold stuff. It is even a demonstration sport at the Olympics and Matt reckons the snow in Japan is the most consistent in the world.
Matt loves it and is off to France at the end of the year to have another crack. Not a bad life Big Fella!
When asked why he is back at Noosa Matt was quick to point out that the blokes are just so great at the Tigers that he couldnât wait to get back, and wants to have a consistent year, steer clear of injuries, and consolidate a spot in the Ones.
Matt, welcome back and we look forward to having your big frame at contests during the year and to hearing how you rate the snow consistency in France, Aspen, Canada â¦. in the years to come
