A players age group is determined by their age as at January 1 of the relevant year (i.e if a player is aged 9 as at 1 January, then for that year they will play under 10's - 'proper age group').
In accordance with AFL rules and by-laws, players must register in their proper age group so that they are provided the opportunity to play in an appropriate environment relevant to their skills and experience. It also allows the club to properly administer the age groups ensuring sufficient numbers are available in each grade.
