The Hawks recorded their sixth win for the year against the Swans and keep the door open for finals. It is the first time in a number of years the Hawks have won 3 in a row and mathematically can still make finals if other results go their way.
It seems to be a theme over the last few weeks for the Hawks to give their opposition a head start and then slowly wear them down. At the last change the Hawks were down by 2 goals but with their renewed belief in each other, knowing they had hunted down their opposition over the past 2 weeks, gave them confidence of running out the game.
James “Occy” McCabe played his best game for the season with a BOG performance. His rebound off the back line set up many forward attacks. Sketty, Disco(2 goals) and Junior(more than 580 senior games between them) showed they can still keep up with the younger Hawks and are enjoying the new structure.

Reserves
In a very good team performance, the reserves restored everyone’s belief in their ability with a five goal win over Gungahlin. A committed and hard working four quarter effort resulted in the side’s first win for a number of weeks.
The ground work was done in the 1st quarter with the Hawks, against the tricky breeze, working very hard to nullify their opponent’s advantage. A strong 2nd quarter had the scores level at the main break. The Hawks finished with a 6 goal to 2 second half to run out convincing winners.
In a great team effort special mentions to Peter Clarke and Khai McPherson who backed up from the U18s and Neil Norman and Kasey Kickett who played 3rds the day before.
With two games to go the Hawks are determined to finish the season strongly.

Div 3
The boys had a chance to put Woden out of Finals contention however it was not to be. A good all round performance was put in by all and again the team has started to play well at the tail end of the season. With Ainslie drawing against Harman, the pressure is now on to topple top-of-the-table ADFA in the final game of the season to finish back above Ainslie on the ladder.

Women’s
The girls had a fantastic come from behind win to beat Eastlake. They were trailing for most of the game, but a goal in the final term to Annie Ghiradello sealed the victory with only a few minutes to spare. The win had the Hawks on equal points on top of the ladder with Ainslie – however Ainslie took out the minor premiership by 1%.
Belinder McPherson had the difficult task of tagging Eastlake’s best player and did a great job at the expense of sacrificing her own game. Kate Gemmel, Jess Runko and Angela Ballerini all worked very well in the backline and Erin Pottenger did well playing in the ruck. Out on the wing, Rachel Colbert, set up many plays into the forwardline and her attack on the football was outstanding.
This win will be a good confidence boost leading into finals as we play Eastlake again this coming weekend in the qualifying final.
