Adam Garrett (16) will play his 250th Club Game this weekend for the Belconnen Magpies Football Club against Eastlake for the Reserves Grade on Saturday at Manuka Oval.
Adam began playing with the Magpies in 1992 and was a member of the 2002, 2003 and 2004 winning Belconnen Premiership sides for 1st Grade.
Adam has played 184 First Grade games, 39 Reserves Grade games, and 25 U18/U19/U21 games with Belconnen totalling 249 games.
Adam believes his past and present coaches have had the biggest influence on his football career. Garrett says that “personally club game milestones are not the highest ranking on my list of achievements, with three premierships and my 100 and 150 first grade games coming before this milestone.” After having 2 knee reconstructions and missing games it made Garrett realise how much footy and the club meant to him. “I have made unbreakable friendships through the football club and it has become my second family (sometimes coming before my own family). 250 is not a bad milestone however at my age playing with your mates celebrating the wins is what gets me through the seasons.”
Reserves Coach, Brendan Read describes Adam “as an outstanding contributor to the BMFC.” Bubba believes his commitment to work in a team environment and his competitive spirit is his most endearing feature as a footballer. Described as a “tough and solid player” Adam has grown over the years as a footballer and Bubba believes Garrett is a person that “can punch above his weight and play tall whenever required.”
Garrett is known for his hard running and uncompromising tackling. As well as concentrating on his senior football he has put back to the junior clubs hours of effort with young players and is a keen observer of how the Magpies teams are going. His Parents Bob and Helen have ridden many of the bumps along with Adam. Bob has been a significant contributor to both the licensed club and football club, while Helen’s work at Calvary Hospital means that she has had to mother many an injured footballer in their times of need.
With a young family of 2 boys and a loving wife Natalie we are sure to see the Garrett name remain synonymous with the club for a long time yet.
