Saturday 9th to Sunday 10th February saw the 2008 Pre-Season step up a notch at Camp Yarramundi. The YMCA put on one hell of a weekend to help us prepare for the 2008 Premiership flags that we are aiming for.
Upon arrival all players were put into 4 competitive teams with points awarded over events throughout the weekend. Results were as follows:
* Team Carter = Eugenes on 2078 points
* Team Busta = Barometers on 1787 points
* Team Reece = R.S.T's on 1750 points
* Team Donnie = Super Team Donnie's on 1048 points
Saturday started off at 930am with all taking part in a Shuttle Test with Team Donnie and Team Carter taking out the points. Following this a round-robin series of scratch matches took place with Team Reece taking out the points. Throughout the afternoon the YMCA took us through a series of rope activities including Rock Climbing (Team Carter) and High ropes (Team Busta). The afternoon completed with an indoor cricket round-robin with Team Reece dominating proceedings and cleaning up all before them.
Saturday night saw the fire get started and the Coaches administrative aspects taking place. The group was seperated into backs, middle and forwards with each group detailing 10 rules/targets for each game so that they achieve our team goals and win each game. Following, the entire group sat down and discussed all rules/targets put forward and detailed these to 5 key rules/targets for each group to satisfy game in and game out to achieve our 2008 goals.
Further, all in attendance voted on a Leadership Group and Vice Captain to join Carter in the role of leading the Club. The Leadership Group will be named at a later date and congratulations on Disco for being named Vice-Captain for the 2008 season.
Highlights:
* Team rules being developed by forwards, middle and backs seperately then significant discussion around 5 key points for the season for each group.
* A few quiet beers.
* Phar Lap telling us how it was during the Premiership 3-Peat of '98, '99, '00.
* Stix showing a few of the new guys the ropes with a "Zapper Game" - boys can not believe you fell for Stix's classic devious ways.
* Busta nuddy-run around the fire.
Sunday morning saw an early rise, before even the Rooster starting crowing. And just to get things started Team Reece and Team Busta were merged while Team Donnie and Team Carter were merged for a 7km run with a 2km sprint - oh yeah, whilst carrying a shipping rope each above their heads!!! Pity went to Matty who was on another planet and kept forgetting which group he was in, changing back and forth and costing his team push ups each time, and let's just say Mobbsy learnt quickly to keep the rope off the ground!!! Points went predominantly to Team Carter here and the stretch on the rest of the groups was developed. Eddo decided this was all just too much for him and stayed in bed - to the detriment of his team and the extra push ups they had to do for him!!!
Breakfast was a sad state of affairs with guys struggling to lift food to their mouths and even more so when the Coaches advised we then had 2 YMCA activities followed by a 4 quarter scratch match.
The YMCA took us through a Alpine Rescue and a Big Swing with the Big Swing seeing Carter and Reece face their fears of heights and complete the swing in an upside down fashion with all teams taking points throughout each activity.
The scratch match saw Bully and Lethal select teams like a schoolyard stoush going pick for pick and then it was on. With 26 players remaining struggling to find energy to walk and eat, all it took was the blow of one whistle and we were into it with Team Bully demolishing Team Lethal by a thouuuusand goals!!!
All in all an AWESOME weekend was had by all with next years Camp being booked in early. The 2008 Season is off to a flyer and if all things continue as is, the Warriors will be a force in 2008!
