Round 2 was a tough fixture for the Warriors with games being played at four different venues across Sydney, so it was a great result to see such terrific performances across all divisions. The committee and coaching staff would like to thank all players that helped out on the weekend, from the 1's boys who gave up their Saturday to head down to Campbelltown, Kelso or Malabar; to the rest of the club that stuck around up at Kellyville to see 1's and U18's do battle with Sydney Hills.

On Saturday the seniors ventured out to Kellyville to take on the Eagles in what was going to be a tough game against a team that featured a number of Premier Division premiership players from several years ago who are still very good players in Division 1.
Right from the start the boys were switched on with relentless pressure being applied to the opposition when they had the ball or it was in dispute. We were also clean with the ball and our delivery into our key forwards in Luke Gemmill and Jimmy Brackin was putting the opposition under a great deal of pressure, resulting in us leading by 5 goals at half time.
After the long break we were not able to make the most of our opportunities and then the opposition came hard at us and reducing the lead to just over 3 goals at 3 1/4 time. Again early in the last quarter we had a number of opportunities to ice the game but failed to capitalise and this allowed the Eagles to gain momentum to the point of actually taking the lead with 2 minutes to go. Soon after the centre bounce Sam Simpson received a free kick and a subsequent 50 metre penalty to have a shot from about 25 metres out in front. With less the 1 minute to go Simmo slotted through the winning goal (albeit a tad wobbly).
It was a game that we should have won comfortably, but in the end we never gave up and got the win in the end. We do need to really ensure that when we have good leads that we need to put the foot to the throat and not allow teams any chance of getting back into the contest. In terms of individual performances Luke Gemmill at full forward and in the ruck was outstanding, as was Cam Ludowyke at full back and Mark Bishop in the back pocket.

Division 3 12.14-86 def
Campbelltown 5.8-38
After a solid first up win in round 1, the Warriors went south to Monarch Oval in search of a second win on the trot. Frenchy got the ball rolling with a couple of early goals, however an arm wrestle soon ensued as the large ground and heavy surface made it difficult to use the ball efficiently. At quarter time the score indicated a narrow lead to the Warriors, and at the half the game was still in the balance as both teams went goal for goal. Scuba was finding plenty of it in the middle and Fish was doing a great job on a dangerous opponent to keep the game in the Warriors favour.
The third quarter saw the Blues come hard with a couple of early goals cutting the margin. But from this point the Warriors responded valiantly, as Winner and Cashy provided some much needed run through the middle, and when Pharlap kicked truly on the buzzer the margin was out to 20 points.
The game was still alive at this point however the Warriors put the foot down in the last quarter with 5 goals to none to run away with what ended up being a comfortable win. Overall this was very encouraging with the boys winning every quarter, but perhaps more encouraging was to see the Pre Season paying off with us finishing all over our opponents.

It was exciting for many of the boys to play their first ever night match and they certainly started strong from the first bounce. However, things dropped off a later in the first quarter and throughout the second. We still managed to stay in front but the Eagles were on our heels at half time. The Fireworks seemed to fire us up and kick us back into playing to our preferred game style - maybe we should have fireworks at every game?! From half time onwards we dominated, especially across half back which put a smile back on T-Bone's face. As we coupled this with strong defensive pressure in the forward line, the Warriors pressed ahead and translated this improvement into goals on the scoreboard. With 9 different goal kickers for our 13 goals scored it is clear that this was a huge team effort and a well deserved win.

Auburn: 0.0-0
The Women Warriors got their 2013 season off to a brilliant start defeating Auburn 19.16.(130) to 0.0.(0) at Pioneers Park on Saturday. Led by the midfield brigade of Nikita Brown, Amanda Farrugia, Liz Fassone and Kristy Sutcliffe, the Warriors continually won the footy out of the middle and gave the forwards plenty of opportunities to kick goals all day. Samantha Martin, playing a forward pocket, was excellent on the lead and kicked a deserving goal, and Aislinn Albury took plenty of strong grabs in the forward 50. But it was work of the two youngest players in the team, Ashley Gray (5 goals) and Bec Beeson (3 goals) that stood out during the match. Their pace and enthusiasm was too much for the opposition and they were rewarded for their great efforts. The Warrior defense was strong once again, with Leah Woldhuis rebounding well off the half back line, and even scoring her first goal for the club in the fourth quarter. Overall, it was an impressive team effort and there were also some encouraging performances from the rookies Vanessa Poon and Anne Sedgley. In the process, the team kicked their highest ever score, as well as producing their biggest ever win. A special thanks must go out to the 1’s boys who drove all the way to Malabar early in the day, including Gav Nixon, Hugh Kirkby and James Coburn. The team also received great off-field help from Zinzi Osborn and Elise Coker. The Women Warriors now sit in top spot heading into Round 2 versus UTS this Saturday, which is the girl’s first home game of the season.
