So, Stix is in charge of footy trip I see! Interesting…..
You will remember back to one of my first articles of the year, where I gave you the heads up that whilst Stix was not at training, he was definitely at the ground, hiding behind the sheds, watching the lads run around the park. Well, it seems his early year “monitoring” has come in handy, and I am about to tell you why!
Footy Trip 2010 this year, sees Stix take charge and he has done a sterling job bringing 38 fellow Warriors together to make a charge to….. well, you will find out where you are going soon enough! Don’t worry, Willy will be there, so it will rock! But put it this way, pack your bags with your Tony Abbot-inspired budgie smugglers, as they will come in very handy!
Being an old hand at footy trips, I thought it might be interesting to examine the groupings that Stix has “randomly” come up with and how they may play out, so see Willy’s Top 10 pairings count down..
10)
Brodie & Busta – the young gun and the old gun. Busta is the man that will win the green sprinters jersey, hands down, but he is an old hand so will challenge for the yellow jersey. His downfall could be the “eyes” that give him away as being further along the journey than he really is, but he will stay that way from 10am first morning until 10am on the trip home. The question is, can Coops maintain his endurance? Time will tell with this one.
9)
Goo & Palmer – a more consistent performer compared with his older brother, Goo looks like a trump card at this year’s event. Palmer on the other hand, well he is a newbie, but never underestimate the unknown challenger. I am sure this will be a cracking partnership! One Willy is looking forward to keeping an eye on.
8)
Dylan & Frenchy – a coming together of the ages this one. Le Peleton has proved himself to be a star in Reserve grade as young Blow-Wave has done in Seniors. Can Blow-wave keep up with the big unit who can go all day??? Will Frenchy show him a thing or two???
7)
Bubsy & Hot-Jacko – after last years GF celebrations it’s a good thing that Hot-Jacko and Skinny are not together here as when they are together trouble is at hand and many a barmen are kept busy. Bubsy, well I think he will be a solid swap out here and he is one of my picks for the B&F of the trip – with youth on his side, he has a sharp wit and loves a good time when not misplacing his Liqourland purchases.
6)
Noney & Chappo – I see what Stix has done here, give Noney an education whilst away on school holidays. Who better than “T for Tom” Chappo, the TV star of the club. However, a man that does like to party. Look out None’s you are in for a big one!
5)
Kenty & Latte – Kenty, I feel for you young man. As a newbie to the club, you have been paired with the unstoppable Latte. Don’t let looks deceive you, Mr Nice Guy has a dark side. I remember a time when we were out together once….. well that story is for another time, just watch yourself Kenty, pack the Alka-Seltzers (these were a hit back in my day of Uni in Glasgow)!
4)
Pooley & Donnie – Club Stalwart and Club Youngen. This is a match up not be missed. I won’t comment here, but let nature take it’s true course…….. Pooley, don’t bother packing a pillow or sleeping bag, it won’t be needed.
3)
Marshy & Coco – the “beauties” of the pack. My tip here – make sure you do not room up with these 2 as getting a step into the bathroom will be a tough gig, let alone a shot at the mirror!
2)
Nipper & Not-Hot-Jacko – midget on midget, mini-me on mini-me, little man on little man, call it what you will. These 2 will rock. If you want a good time on footy trip, stay close to these 2 loose cannons. Nipper will have you laughing no ends, a funny little man that one and NHJ, well he can crack the odd hilarity just when you don’t expect it. On the footy field he lives in his bro’s shadow, but off the field is when he comes to life.
1) Finally,
Stumpy & Hobo – the less said about this pair the better. Seriously, if Stix could have paired up the whipping boys of the squad, he would have done exactly what he has here. Now, if there ever was a grouping to come to blows this is it! Stay tuned for the barney of the year here. I recommend a leg-chain on these two just to ensure they spend the whole time in close proximity. And Stumpy, pack some ear plugs!
Finally, a tip from an old stalwart, a man’s number 1 tool of trade for a footy trip – pack the stubbie holder!
Signing off until next year as Willy is heading back to ye ole motherland for some good haggis and some Yorkshire puddings over xmas and to keep my annual search for ole Nessy!
Willy
