Div 3 VS Gosford Wildcats
After being touched up last week, the boys arrived at Mac Uni to board the bus full of confidence for the trip to Gosford against a team with only one win to their name. The great thing about our boys is they have very short memories and never remember the previous week or it could be they truly believe in themselves. Why shouldn't they, new week, new team and plenty of positives gained from all previous games.
The message was clear, switch on from the bounce and take control of the game. Bugger, must have got lost in translation or the opposition was listening in because that it was what they did to us. Strong performances from Stumpy, Stu, Hugh, Rove , Amac saw the ascendency switch back to Mac Uni in the last 10 minutes of the first quarter with two late goals.
Message was clear going in to the second, switch on from the bounce and take control of the game. Crap déjà vu Gosford kicked the first 5 goals. Again the boys rallied through Dopey, Blair and Hugh amongst others.
We changed the the message for the third with the instruction to stop Gosford taking control from the bounce. Maybe we were kidding ourselves by thinking we could change the wording of the message and get a different result because away Gosford went again. Jonno was making an impact as was Josh, Blair, Chips and Belly.
We lost our workhorse, Phar Lap to a knee injury so we discussed whether we would get the bus driver to throw some boots on but didn't think it was fair to take him away from his 4 hamburgers and 3 cokes.
Final quarter arrived and stuff the game plan from the bounce. Let's just beat the at the contest and win the quarter. Must have worked because they didn't get the jump on us from the bounce. Guts and determination saw us get plenty of the footy in the last and really take it up to Gosford but unfortunately the damage had been done in the first three. Stu never gave up having to match up against what must have been John Coleman's grandson or Pluggers love child. Whoever he was he was a very handy full Forward.
Pup had the role of tagging the best player all day and did a sensational job, literally taking him out of the game. Keir made the announcement that he would take out one of their best players (fairly of course) problem was he crunched the wrong player, but great hit nevertheless.
Highlights
- arguably some of the best form was the onesie's the boys changed in to for the bus ride home
- the warm up drills worked well
- the boys listened intently pre game (just not sure what to)
and in the match
- Mac Uni continue to put some tremendous passages of play together, working the ball in numbers and showing the skills of a great team. We just need to do it for 20 minutes across four quarters. Unfortunately the lapses are killing us.
- as is expected of these guys, they guts it out to the end.
- they remain positive at all times and provide great encouragement to each other which enables them to lift when things are working against them.
Best Players
Jarman, Dopey, Pup, Rove, Chips and Blair
