Division 1 11.12-78 def
North Shore 8.1-49
Last Saturday presented the team with their 3rd match away from home and another good challenge in North Shore, with brilliant weather and a quality ground to match. With several changes to the side from last week, including first gamer Aiden Thompson, the team was well balanced to take on a team that was desperate to knock us off.
Unfortunately we were slow off the blocks in terms of the challenge, skills and application to the game plan. North Shore were up for the challenge and had us chasing tail a fair bit with us being a goal down at ¼ time. It was the same in the 2nd quarter until the last 10mins when the boys began to claw their way back into the game to eventually lead by 2 points at half time, particularly with some positional changes including Jimmy Brackin in the ruck, Aiden MacCulloch to centre half forward and James Coburn on the ball.
Another wayward 3rd quarter (2 goals 7 behinds) allowed North Shore to remain in the contest at 3 ¼ time, but we could feel that the boys were getting on top of the opposition and that was duly reflected in the last quarter with us running out 29 point winners. We certainly didn’t play anywhere near to what we are capable of, but the pleasing aspect from a coach’s perspective is that guys kept at it even though they were struggling at times, and got the result in the end.
Our best players on the day included another great performance from Gav Nixon particularly on the ball, Hugh Kirkby at centre half back who was never beaten in the air, on the ground and on the rebound, and Sam Simpson especially when he went to the half back flank. Special mention also to the entire back 6 who withstood a lot of pressure in the first half and ensured the opposition were not able to put the scoreboard pressure on that they would have liked.
This Saturday we play our catch up game with the undefeated St George at home with the game kicking off at 4.10pm. Again another great challenge for the guys to test themselves against quality opposition.

Women 16.18-114
Penrith 1.0-6
The Women Warriors made it three from three this season with another big win on Saturday against Penrith.
Despite being on the road for the third consecutive week, the Warriors came bolting out of the gates with a six goals to zero first quarter. Aislinn Albury and Amanda Farrugia (5 goals) were dominant in the middle, consistently winning the ball out of the ruck and giving the forwards plenty of opportunities. A couple of impressive goals to Steff Lee and Laila Waisu were great rewards for their effort too. Liz Fassone also worked hard across the field all day, presenting well when forward and winning a lot of contested footy.
The girls continued their dominance in the second quarter when Ashley Gray (3 goals) played some of her best footy for the club, and Kristy Sutcliffe kicked two goals at full forward.
The third quarter was a tougher term for the girls as they had a lot of footy and plenty of inside 50’s, but struggle to convert a few golden opportunities. However, the defence was disciplined all day with Leah Woldhuis, Belinda Muldoon and Jessica Bond helping to repel any attacks that crossed the centre. The last quarter was a much improved effort, even with temperatures increasing. The Warriors conceded their first score for the season with only a few minutes remaining, but the work rate of the midfielders late in the game was excellent and the forwards presented well – including encouraging signs from Stacey O’Loughlin and Vanessa Poon.
Special thanks must go to Brent Pawley who umpired the game at short notice and also to Yasmin Seyfarth and Sherridan Plain for running water & messages in the heat. The Women now make up their washed out game against UTS this weekend. A win would see the Warriors take top spot on the ladder.

Division 4 4.5-29 def by
Sydney University 15.12-112
Div 4 travelled out to Marrickville to play Sydney University.
With some fresh faces to the team and some returning for first game of the season it looked like a new side to the one the week before.
We started right off the first bounce with a goal to Matty Lawrence within the first minute of the game but after conceding 4 unanswered goals in the first quarter Sydney Uni had busted ahead.
The second quarter went much like the first with Alex Benson sloting one from the flank. However it wasnt enough to keep up. We entered the sheds with the score at 2-4-16 to 9-10-64.
After a Big speech at half time we came out much more fired up than the start of the match. The third quarter saw Sydney kick another 3 goals to our none.
We entered the last quarter with a little fire left in us. If we couldnt win we will make them hurt for it. Some great defence along the half back and fast movement of the ball between fish, connor and cocks saw the ball in our forward line for the majority of this half. Matty Lawrence scored another goal and a goal to Carter Mullins after being taken high just in front of goals.
This week we take on North Shore bombers at home and look towards our first win for the season.
