MUAFC would like to announce the appointment of Scott Cations to First Grade Assistant Coach joining our two premiership winning coaches, Head Coach Daniel Kenny & Assistant Coach Dean Connor's.
DK, Deano & Scottie will form a formidable coaching team and will look to guide the First Grade side through an extremely challenging Division 1 competition in 2010.
Like many ex Victorians it was work that brought this 27 year old & his girlfriend Sarah to Sydney with an opportunity to become a Director of Property Dynamics to good to refuse.
Scottie joined the club in 2009 from Old Scotch in Melbourne where he had played since 2001. He made an immediate impact at the club filling the crumbing forward pocket role which DK & Deano had identified early as a position which we had no obvious candidate for.
His 2009 season was exceptional with the Warriors despite playing only 8 games due to a mid season knee injury he kicked 21 goals with 6 of these coming in the Grand Final win against UTS for which he was named Best on Ground and the Warriors Player of the Finals.
Scottie is a talented footballer on the field but it was his contribution off the field to the coaching staff which DK & Deano have described as invaluable. Scouting opposition games, providing detailed analysis on opposition players and taking on the un-official title of forwards coach in the run home to the finals.
He had this to say on his recent appointment:
"Having played many years of football, lived through the ups and the downs, I know believe I am in a position to give a little extra to the team not only on but off the field too. Personally I still have plenty to learn but there are certainly elements of the game that people and fellow players can learn from me. The positives I will bring to the club include my knowledge of the game, analysis of opposition sides, my forward mindset on structures and styles. I’m not setting out to change my match day role or who I am around the club but will be helping both DK and Deano with preparation and planning like much of my time was spent last year while injured. I hope that the players will be accepting of me in this position and that I’m another person you can come to for advice or any issues you are having throughout the year. This goes for players in all levels and grades as I believe that a senior team is only strong because of the quality of the players and people pushing to get into that team."
"There is a great vibe to the club. Success is in our blood and with a combination of the experienced heads and the eager youths there is a deep feeling that the team can claw a win out of any situation. Coming off an extraordinary year, if the players can remain together, bottle the belief from last year and perhaps improve an extra 20% I see no reason that the clubs 1st’s can’t go back to back in 2010 along with the remaining sides bringing home some silverware."
Congratulations to Scottie on his appointment and further coaching announcements for Under 18's and Reserve Grade will be published shortly.
