It’s somewhat fitting that the Round 15 clash of Nor-West Jets vs arch rivals UNSW/ES at Village Green also marks the 100th game for Jets young gun Aaron Bayne, making him only the 7th player to reach the magical number in the Jets 12 year existence.
‘Bayney’ will rack up his ton this weekend, making him both the youngest and quickest to reach the milestone for Nor-West AFC. Bayney arrived at Bensons Lane back in 2007 as a 19 year old after playing rugby for Hawkesbury Valley, and immediately cemented his place on the half back line in Seniors, in what was a baptism of fire in Senior footy, with the Jets finishing at the foot of the 1st Division ladder in 2007 & 2008, but he honed his craft playing against the experienced forwards from the likes of Manly, UTS and Cronulla. 2009 saw Bayney lift his game to a new level, as his attacking brand of rebound football and explosive pace making him a dangerous component of the Jets back 6 in their ill fated minor premiership, and he became even more dangerous under the tutelage of Garry Bull in 2010 & 2011. He is among the Jets most consistent players in 2012 under Sydney footy legend Don Ollington and will figure well in Shipley medal voting at years end.
Bayney has also had the rare opportunity to play alongside his father and 1990 & 1993 Hawkesbury Saints premiership player Rod Bayne over the years, with ‘Rocket’ also plying his trade in the reserves this year at the rip young age of 50, joining the Cass and Hibbins families in recent father-son combinations at Bensons.
Aaron is also a talented cricketer, having represented the Hawks Grade cricket rep teams over the years, and opening blade for his beloved North Richmond, and more recently Pitt Town 1st grade teams, as well as his brutal displays against the Manly Wolves in the annual DILLIGAF Cup fixtures.
Bayney, at 23, is considered a baby faced veteran of the Jets Senior squad after 6 strong years, and would be short priced with the bookies to be the first Jet to reach 150 and then onto 200, and we look forward to many more blistering runs off the half back flank for years to come.
