The Goannas headed out to Trumper park with the first grade team whilst the reserve grade and second division played at Goanna park. The first grade started short with just 16 players for the best part of the opening quarter but managed well against the league leaders to go into the 1st break trailing the Bats 3.7.25 to 1.1.7. The second quarter was all the Bats but the Goanna defence continued to pressure UTS's attack on goal and we went into the main break trailing the Bats 6.13.49 to 1.3.9. The half time break was constructive and we headed out with a confidence that we could make inroads into the Bats lead. We kicked the first 4 goals of the third term and only had 1 late goal kicked against us. The score at the final break was Goannas 5.5.35 to 7.17.59. The final quarter was a complete reversal of the 3rd term and the Bats ran away with the game.
Final score Goannas 5.6.36 to 11.22.88.
Best players were Gerrad Kennedy, Mark Hill, Andrew Munns, Jesse Haurua, Tony Mance and Brodie Crane.
Goal kickers were Brett Harland 2, Des Worrell 2 and Tim Barton
The Reserve grade also played the Bats, but at Goanna park as the game was transferred because there was only 1 game allowed to be played at Trumper. The Goannas tried hard all day but were outplayed by Bats who also lead the competition.
Final score Goannas 3.5.23 to 15.13.103
Best players were Gary Sentance, Shannon Altorjay, Tom Parsons, Tim Johns, John Mannion and Daniel Bryant
Goal kickers were Ethan Dean 2 and Jesse Grosas.
It wouldn't have been fair if the second Division didn't also play the league leaders, so Pennant hills made the trip out to Goanna park and made it none from 3 for the Goannas.
Final score Goannas 2.1.13 to 29.21.195
Best players were Jonathon Stott, Garth LeRoux, Ben Hanson, Scott MacLean, Lee Nolan and Grant Smith
Goal kickers were Dane Ramsay and Garth LeRoux.
The Goannas head out to Manly next week in all 3 grades. 8am, 12pm and 2pm
