After good wins in their last 2 games the Division 2 team were confident of coming away with a rare win at Trumper.
The first quarter was very tight, with the Goannas leading for the majority before a late UTS goal gave them a 1 point quarter time lead. The Goannas kicked the first of the second to regain the lead, but 4 unanswered goals by UTS saw them take the ascendancy and a 17 point half time lead.
The teams went goal for goal in the second half in a very tough and well fought gain, but unfortunately the Goannas could not make the inroads they needed to, eventually going down by 25 points in a display that will still leave the team confident of a strong season ahead.
Goal Scorers: Shaun Costello 2, Stuart McKinley, Grant Webb, Anthony Bishop, Kristin Carville
Best Players: Andrew Munns, Brett Rizzo, Tony Mance, Anthony Bishop, Grant Webb, Sireli Fifita.
Under 18's - Final Score Pennant Hills 14.20.104 def. Goannas 3.2.20.
This week also saw the "Goanna Goose" pink shirt award make its debut. The inaugural winner of this highly avoided award was Brett Rizzo, who abandoned his broken down car in the Cross City Tunnel and hailed down a cab to ensure he still made the game. We thank the cabbie after Rizzo's BOG performace, but it was not enough to avoid the pink shirt.
Next week the Goannas host Campbelltown and Penrith in their first "home" game of the year. The works at Goanna Park mean we won't be able to play at our spiritual home this year, but rest assured the Goanna spirit will be present at whatever ground we anoint as home!
The first major Social event for the Goannas is only weeks away with the annual Trivia Night taking place on May 23, at our sponsor Crown on McCredie. This very popular event is sure to be a great night again in 2009, so all past and present players are invited to come along and bring, friends, family, work mates, anyone you can rope in for a night of fun and fierce competition.
