Match Preview
After being under pressure and decimated by injuries, the Bombers dug deep against Wests to take out a hard-earned win.
This week we take on Illawarra, a game originally scheduled for a few weeks ago but wet weather caused Gore Hill to be closed that day. The Lions are yet to win a game in 2013, so they’ll be hungry to break their drought.
It’s an extremely close battle for finals positions within the top five, with just a few percentage points separating second from fifth – a battle so tight that even though we won by four goals last week, we dropped two spots on the ladder. Depending on our result and other games to be played this weekend, there’s a real possibility that five teams could be equal top with just percentage separating them.
In that context, every goal North Shore scores, and every goal they prevent their opponents from scoring, is critically important; and the Bombers will be keen to win by as big a margin as possible. How the finals shape up could potentially depend on it.
Gwawley Oval
Gwawley Oval is on Box Road at Taren Point.
To get there, go through the Harbour Tunnel and continue along the Eastern Distributor. Keep going straight ahead along Southern Cross Drive and under the airport tunnel.
Go straight ahead along The Grand Parade, through Brighton-Le-Sands. Keep going straight ahead, ignore the urge to turn right when most cars will at Bay St. Botany Bay will be on your left. Keep going through Ramsgate; the road swings round to the right at Dolls Point.
Go to the end of the street, and turn left at Rocky Point Road. You will then cross Georges River, once you’ve gone over the bridge get into the right lane. The park will soon be visible on the right. Turn right at the lights just past the ground onto Box Road, there’s plenty of parking on the side street.
To get there by public transport, get the train to the city and change at Town Hall to platform 4 for the southern line. Get off at Kogarah, and catch the Sydney Buses route 477 bus, which will take you across the bridge and across the road from the oval.
