Sunday afternoon at Blacktown Olympic Park saw the ground bathed in sunshine; the healthy contingent of North Shore supporters electing to set up camp on the hill for our elimination final clash against local rivals Pennant Hills.
The Bombers started slowly, and were soon two goals behind. But as the midfield clicked into gear, the Bombers worked their way back into the contest, and scores were tied up at quarter time.
The Bombers got on top in the second quarter. Spearheaded by a 3-goal quarter from the helmetted Pat Codling, and with the midfield picking up possessions at will, the Bombers kicked six goals to one for the quarter to race to a 33-point lead at the long break.
A low-scoring third term saw 15 goal-less minutes tick by; a period of dour defence. Eventually Danny Roberts broke the deadlock with a nicely converted goal from an impossible angle; and Ben Attwood shortly afterwards added another as the Bombers went 38 points ahead at the last change.
The Demons kicked two early goals in the final quarter, but all doubt was quickly erased as the Bombers came storming home. A well-executed double by Ben Attwood, and a brilliant running effort by Seb Paynter, sealed the fate of the game; and it was plain sailing in the final stages as the Bombers cruised to a 56-point win.
So the Bombers remain alive, and will be back in action next Sunday at Blacktown; in the first semi-final against Sydney Uni. With our Under 18s and seniors both in action next Sunday, it will be a big Bomber day; so get yourself to Blacktown for what's sure to be an enthralling day.
