CDHBU have broken through for their first win of the season in Tommy Moloney’s 100th senior game.
Playing the RWW Giants at Rand the Power got away to a great start with Nathan Rhodes on fire on his wing and with Russell Anderson, Shannon Broadbent, Matthew Howard and Jeremy Stevenson dominating in the middle the Power kicked 6 goals for the quarter to take a 6.2.38 to 3.2.20 lead at quarter time.
Brad Lewis was providing an option up forward in his 1st senior game for the club and with Andrew Ollington and Tommy Moloney providing run from defence the Power kicked away with the first 2 goals of the second quarter to have a 30 point lead. But the Giants press began to work with the pressure causing turnovers as the Giants capitalised kicking 2 late goals as Power went to half time with a 19 point lead 8.4.52 to 5.3.33.
The second half start with Ollington moved onto the Giants coach Aalbers and did a great job, while goals were hard to come by for the Power with Ben Wilson snapping one through and Ryan Mills with great forward line pressure rewarded with one. Giants were looking to get on top with 3 goals for the quarter but great defence from Tim Cooper enable to the Power to lead by 13 points at the last change 10.7.67 to 8.6.54.
The last quarter saw Rhodes and Anderson continue their good games and when Lewis slotted his third goal the Power looked home, but the Giants hit back with a goal with 3 minutes to go but the Power was able to hang on for a 13 point victory, winning 11.11.77 to 9.10.64.
