CDHBU played their best game for the season as they defeated last season’s grand finalist Henty by 121 points at Coreen in front of a reunion of the 1991 Coreen Seniors & Reserve premiership teams.
It what loomed as a danger game for the Power, with Henty winning 3 out of the last 4 while the Power had lost 2 of their past 3 games.
With wet & muddy conditions greeting the players, a positive start was needed by the Power and Andrew Ollington got the Power off to the perfect start with an early goal. With Damien Wilson & Kade Rowe winning in the centre of the ground the ball spent majority of the time the Power’s forward line and with Jeremy Stevenson getting two late goals the Power went to quarter time leading 4.2.26 to 1.0.6
The second quarter was a slog in the conditions with the scoring becoming harder as the Power controlled the game with Tim Cooper, Jordan Wilson & Mick Collins holding firm in defence and Alex Wallis and Blaize Naughtin lively up forward as the Power kicked 2 goals to Henty’s one before Coach Damien Payne gave the team a good boost going into half time with a goal after the siren to lead 7.4.46 to 2.1.13.
Kade Rowe got Power off to the perfect start after half time with a goal in the 1st minute as the Power controlled the contest holding the Swampies scoreless for the quarter and with Naughtin, Tom Moloney & Wallis making use of the ball up forward the Power kicked 6 goals for the quarter to lead 13.9.87 to 2.1.13
The Power continued to play great team footy in the last quarter as they made a mockery of the conditions as they slammed home 7 goals for the quarter and the backline was superb as they looked to keep Henty scoreless in the second half before a late behind enabled the Power to run out big winners 20.15.135 to 2.2.14.

In the Reserves Henty was only percentage outside the top six, and the Henty boys needed a top six scalp to have any chance to play finals. In muddy conditions it was the Power that got off to a good start to the game with goals to Brad Lewis and Hayden Fischer to give the Power a handy 15 point lead at quarter time. The second quarter became a hard slog with Hayden Fischer, Jakob Hanrahan and Sam Haigh all playing well in the heavy conditions, but Henty kept themselves in the game to only trail by 8 points at half time.
After the break with Ryan Millis & Mark Playford giving the Power plenty off drive through the midfield and with a stand out performance by Sean Hanrahan helped the Power to a great third quarter, and the forwards made the most off their chances with Ryan Rhodes kicking 2 goals along with Doug Lavis and Tom Renshaw a goal each as the Power took a 33 point lead at the final change. The last quarter saw the conditions take over with scoring hard to come by as the Power added 3 points and Henty 2 points as the Power ran out extending 34 point winners 6.9.45 to 1.5.11.

The Under 17’s with both teams in the top six it was going to be a hard game in heavy conditions as to which team could handle the conditions better. It was Henty which came out on top in the first half leading 2.2.14 to the Power only 1 point with James Hanrahan Josh Tidd both giving the Power solid games.
The second half the boys lifted well lead by Jamie Walton and Cam Dutton, and a comeback was on and with both Andrew Phibbs and Will Johnson getting plenty of the ball and both kicking a goal each got the power within 2 points, but Henty where able to hold on to win by that margin, 2.4.16 to 2.2.14.

The Under 14’s saw foggy conditions and a ground that was wet, slippery and heavy under foot, the game started slowly in the first quarter in what would be a low scoring contest. The second quarter saw the Power improve all over the ground with the first goal of the game being scored. The game went the Power way in the third quarter where we controlled the ruck and centre contests and positions around the ground. There were some great bursts of play with Ethan Hanrahan, Rory Batten and Paddy Lavis providing the run and carry supported by Nathan McDonald, Angas McFarland and Caleb Kushert hard around the ball. The backline was well held by Tom Collier and Jack Downing. In a best on ground performance, Bailey Minogue controlled the ruck and centre half forward positions plus kicking 4 goals for the game as the Power came away with a determined win 4.2.26 to Henty 0.4.4.
Well done to all boys.
