The Power had a thrilling 4 point victory over fellow finals aspirates the Murray Magpies in the wet at Coreen on Saturday.
With rain falling all morning the ground nearly resembled a lake when the Seniors took to the field and it was the Magpies that scored first with an early goal. But with Josh Lewis and Brad Talbot revelling in the conditions the Power made the most of the time forward with goals to Talbot, Damian Payne and Corey Smith to go the first break leading 3.1 to 1.1.
An early goal to Alex Wallis got the lead out to 18 points before the Magpies worked their way back into the game with three goals to level the scores before Payne kicked a goal just before half time to give the Power a 6 point lead at half time, 5.1 to 4.1.
A 50 metre penalty earlier in the third quarter enabled the Magpies an early goal to level the scores, but with Nathan Rhodes, Tyson Burdon, Tom Moloney and Ben Wilson playing well and with Lewis & Talbot in everything the Power hit back with goals to Payne and Jeremy Stevenson to enable the Power to take a 10 point lead at the last change 7.3 to 5.5.
The Magpies threw everything at the Power in the last quarter but with the backline lead by Andrew Ollington and Tim Cooper holding firm and the class of Stevenson and Smith the Power was able to hold on with Magpies kicking the only goal of the last quarter as the Power outlasted the Magpies winning 7.4 to 6.6.

The Reserves when down by 13 points in a very low scoring affair to the Magpies. Only two goals were kicked for the game both by the Magpies, they kicked an early goal to get the advantage and then sealed the victory with a goal late in the game. Between that it was an evenly matched game with Ryan Rhodes and Doug Lavis giving their all as onballers while Wade Thurling and Steven Talbot did a great job in defence. Shay Rhodes and Damian Talbot also played well as the Power went down 2.4 to 0.3.

The Under 17’s in their first hit out for the season had a comfortable victory in the pouring rain. Matthew Walker made a mockery of the conditions to kick 8 goals in a brilliant display. Dylan Cornell, Kane Mills and Matthew Baker all played well in the mid field for the Power, Josh Tidd was good in the ruck while Jesse O’Donoghue stepped up from last season Under 14’s to be a good performer as the Power ran out 12.8 to 1.1 victors.

A grade had a strong game and matched it with Magpies for most of the game giving them a great challenge being even at half time. We got a lot of the ball but again had trouble converting, if we can convert our goals we will be right up there with the best. We have a great strong team and Brooke Wilson was a stand out for us with some fantastic intercepts and great pressure down the court. Our defence was strong again and we have only a few things to work on as the Magpies won 45 to 35. Good effort girls, next time hopefully it isn't raining and we can beat them.
The heavens were well and truly open for the B grade game and it didn't let up at all. We had a great start this week and then Magpies ran away from us there. We really struggled to get it into our attacking end and converting our possession. Magpies goalies rarely missed but our defence end was again strong with Meghan Hanrahan and Emily Boyle combining well but the Magpies were too strong winning 54 to 23. Lots to work on again but a fair game for the crappy conditions.
C grade went down by 7 in tough game against Murray, 37 to 30. With some fresh faces on court, Melissa Stevenson and Brooke Morris, all the girls put in an extraordinary effort having never all played together before.
Best on Court went to Rachel Hanrahan who was brilliant in attack/goals. Anna Dye received an award for her beautiful work in defence. Well done to all the girls for the effort they put up in those conditions.
C Res put up a strong effort against The Magpies in terrible conditions winning by 4 goals. All the girls played really well, Emily Bush receiving best on court for her outstanding performance in attack/goals. Courtney Aitken was brilliant in defence, taking heaps of intercepts and putting pressure on the Magpies shooters. Great game by all as the Power won 40 to 36.
This weekend sees CDHBU Power take on Jindera on Sunday at Jindera.
