CDHBU had a big scare before holding out local rivals the Billabong Crows by 9 points at a cold Urana Oval on Saturday.
The Power started well with Jeremy Stevenson (3 goals) and Corey Smith (2 goals) firing up forward and with Luke Bryon and Sean Hanrahan holding the defence together the Power went in a quarter time with a 27 point lead. The Crows hit back in the second quarter with the Power struggling to get their hands on the ball as the Crows got within 2 points, before a goal to Smith after the half time siren enabled the Power to lead by 8 points at half time. The second half was a real struggle for the Power, Joel Rippingale was trying hard to lift the team and with Stevenson kicking another two goals the Power went into the last change with a 13 point lead. The Crows made the Power pay every time they went forward with straight kicking but with the elusive Stevenson kicking another two goals to finish with 7 for the match the Power was able to take the points with a hard fought 9 point win, 13.12 to 13.3.
The Reserves won their sixth game for the season with an 81 point over the Crows. Jarrod Hanrahan continued his good form and along with Mal Macartney the Power started well and with Joel Willett playing his best game in weeks the Power went out to 47 point margin by half time. Clint Renner was providing a good target up forward and Nick Hogan wound back the clock with a vintage display. The backline of Luke Murphy, Wes Amor and Ian Bock did a great job in holding the Crows forwards as the Power ran out 14.11 to 2.2 winners.
The Thirds kept their finals hopes alive with a 48 point win over the Crows. With Tim Heagney and Maden Lohse playing well the Power made a good start to lead by 11 points at quarter time. With Jay O’Donoghue and Jakob Hanrahan winning plenty of kicks and with Luke Brown and Jordan Lavis doing well the Power increased the lead at each quarter to win 8.8 to 1.2.
The Fourths have sealed a top two finish with a 96 point victory over the Crows. Josh Tidd continued his improvement with a great display in the ruck and with Kane Mills and Andrew Phibbs firing the Power had the contest won by quarter time. Ryan Bruce and Matthew Walker were great up forward for the Power, while Jesse O’Donoghue, Jimmy Hanrahan and Tom Webb helped keep the Crows scoreless. Adrian Darby also played well as the Power ran out 14.12 to 0.0 winners.
The CDHBU girls had a very successful day at Urana against billabong crows. A grade started off a bit shaky before they settled into themselves and came home strongly. The girls never dropped their pace leaving the Crows behind in the last half. Youngster Brooke Wilson started in centre, Brooke was not intimidated at all and her athleticism and speed made it hard for her opponent to keep up. Sophie Hanrahan had another outstanding game, both in goals and defense. The defensive end again formed a tight unit. Well done to all girls on the court, as the Power ran out 60 to 32 winners
B grade began their game with celebrating Karina Collins achievement of reaching 100 Hume League games. Karina was overseas at the start of the season, but when B grade numbers were falling due to injuries, Karina made her big comeback and has had an outstanding season as always, playing in defense. Karina is a highly valued member of the CDHBU club and has become a very important part of the B grade team. Well done Kaz!
The celebrations helped to boost the girls who took the court with confidence. A few different players and positions meant they needed some time to settle, which they did. And again they played a strong game without dropping the pace, coming home strong in the last half. An outstanding attacking game from Zoe O,Connell who plays clever netball and is a real team player. Hayley Scott was consistent through the mid court and was a real stand out. Defensive pressure was again outstanding with Carly Murphy taking rebound after rebound. And of course Karina Collins had a stellar performance in her 100th game as the Power won 45 to 24. Well done to all the girls. Lets have another win next week.
C Grade was no match for the second placed Magpies as they went down by 35 goals. Karina Parr, Lucy Bartlett and Rachel Hanrahan gave their all but the Mapgies were too good as they won 53 to 18.
C Reserve returned to the winners list with a big 40 goal victory over the Crows. With Courtney Aitken, Jo Nichol and Sophia Miccio all playing well the Power ran away with a 54 to 14 win.
The Intermediates didn’t play as Billabong doesn’t have a side.
The Juniors girls had a great game today against the Crows scoring 9 goals. All the girls gelled well together and showed a lot of teamwork with Jadeyn Renner, Chloe Gilcrist and Megan Aitken named as the best players.
The Mods had a good game this week against Billabong. Well done to Ashton Nichol, April Talbot and Isabelle Walton on playing fantastic games, but the Crows were too big winning 38 to 1
This week the club takes on Jindera at Coreen which the senior clash as a large bearing on Finals postions.
