CDHBU made it four wins in a row with a mammoth 167 point victory over the Murray Magpies at Coreen.
After the bye last week the Power need to start well to put the Magpies out of the contest early and that is exactly what happened. With Doug Lavis (4 goals) and Sam Burdon (3 goals) firing up forward and with Matt Ross, Josh Lewis and Jeremy Stevenson winning the midfield the Power slammed on 9 goals to 2 points to lead by 55 points by quarter time. Joel Rippingale was winning plenty of the ball and finding the goals and with Andrew Ollington continuing his good form the Power increased the lead to 86 points by half time. The Power surged away in the second half as they continued to dominate the Magpies with Jeremy Boothman and Aaron Ray playing well. The highlight of the third term was a huge specky in the goal square by Ross who was still shaking with air sickness when he missed the goal. The last quarter was the Rippingale show as he kicked four goals to add to the five he had already kick to finish with 9 goals in a best on ground display as the Power ran out 27.22 to 2.5 winners.
The Reserves also made it four wins on the trot with a 67 point win over the Magpies. The boys were slow to start but with Coach Clint Renner on fire up forward with 9 goals and Wes Amor holding the defence together the Power cruised away with the victory. Kyle McKenzie was great and along with Pat & Jack Norman the Power had all the answers. Mal Macartney and Nathan Allen continued their fine form as the Power ran out 14.11 to 4.4 winners.
The Thirds went down to Murray Magpies by 33 points. The boys were quick out of the block with 3 first quarter goals to lead by 10 points with Tim Gilchrist, Corey Walton and Jack Wynne playing well. But the scoring dried up for the Power as they could only manage another 3 points for the game despite the efforts of Brad Macartney and Kurt Letchford. But the Magpies were too god has they ran out 6.18 to 3.3 winners.
The Fourths are still undefeated for the season after their 79 pint win over the Magpies. Matt Walker continued his purple patch of good form with 5 goals while Harley Ralph, Will Johnston and Taylor Baker all put in good efforts. Youngsters David Garcia and Anthony Carroll played well as the Power ran out 12.14 to 1.1 winners. The club wished youngster Shannon Leahy all the best in his recovery from a broken leg.
The A grade girls fronted up to powerhouse Murray Magpies on Saturday. Early going was encouraging for the girls as they went out to an early lead against the second placed Maggies. Shooters Sophie Hanrahan and Bec Barber were making the most of their opportunities as the Power girls kept up the pressure. Any drop in intensity would have seen the game blow open but it the girls continued to work hard and keep possession. Scores were level at three quarter time and the Power was behind during the last term, but it was the Magpies who cracked in the end, allowing the Power girls to post their maiden victory against the Magpies by one goal, 53 to 52. All girls played fantastically and the win now sees them likely to play finals.
Unfortunately the same cannot be said about B grade. It was simply one of “those” days as the undefeated Magpies bombarded the Power to overrun them 69-25. The girls continued fighting till the last minute, however the vocal Magpies continued to dominate and intimidate. This loss sees B grade sitting 6th which means the remaining games in the season are all crucial games that need to be won and won well, but the girls definitely have the ability to do this.
C Grade was no match for the second placed Magpies as they went down by 35 goals. Karina Parr, Lucy Bartlett and Rachel Hanrahan gave their all but the Mapgies were too good as they won 53 to 18.
C Reserve went down by 6 goals against the Magpies. Anna Dye, Danielle McLachlan and Michelle Walker gave the Power a chance of victory, but the Magpies proved too strong as they ran out 34 to 28 winners.
The Intermediates went down to top off the ladder side Magpies by 18 goals in their game. Emma Wilson, Emily Boyle and Amy Hansen all played well for the Power but the Magpies were just too strong as they ran out 47 to 29 winners.
The Juniors girls started well against second placed Magpies with Megan Aitken, Aliarna Sagum and Lillian Walton all playing well. The girls worked well as a team and are continuing to improve but went down 26 to 3.
This week the club takes on local rival and former Coreen league club Billabong Crows at Urana.
