The CDHBU seniors finished their season with a 96 point loss to finals bound Henty in their game at Henty on Saturday. Henty needed to win to cement a finals spot and they were quickly out of the blocks totally dominating the first quarter with the Power’s poor skill level hurting the side as the Swampies led at the first change 5.8 to 0.1. The Power was much better in the second term with Jarrod Hanrahan and Joel Rippingale pumping the ball forward through getting the first use of the ball from George Neely and Luke Melville was able to slot through two goals as the Power trailed at the main break 9.12 to 3.2. The Power continue to put plenty of effort into the contest in the third term with Wes Amor and Aaron Ray playing well for the Power and along with Jordan Wilson the Power was able to kick 3 goals but trailed at the last change 16.16 to 6.2. Owen Smith in his first game showed plenty of promise for the Power and along with veteran Clint Renner the Power never gave up, finally going down 20.21 to 7.3.
The Reserves ended the season on high with a 21point win against Henty. With the side short on numbers, senior players Sean Hanrahan, Ryan Rhodes and Joel Rippingale help out and this enabled the Power to get an early advantage with goals to Damien Talbot and Jordan Ray. With veteran’s Paul Phibbs and Ian Bock playing their consistent games and Mark Tilders controlling the defence the Power was able to hold their lead to half time. With the senior players going off for their game, the Power players seem to had gained confidence from the lead and with Steve Talbot playing superbly and Pat Norman having a influence the Power were able to hold the swampies to run out winners 11.4 to 7.7.
The Under 17’s had a comfortable 62 point win against Henty. With Marc Playford dominating up forward with 6 goals the Power was able to cruise to victory. Luke Murphy and Joe Ferguson led a strong defence for the Power and along with Sam Norman and Beau Damm the Power held the Swampies to only 4 goals. Kade Wilson, Tom Moloney and Ben Wilson also had strong games as the Power had a 13.11 to 4.3 victory. This sees Power finish in 4th spot and will play Osborne this Sunday in an elimination final at Walbundrie.
The Under 14’s went down by 5 points in a thrilling contest against top of the ladder Henty. Henty jumped out of the blocks and build a handy lead at the first break. With Jay O’Donoghue, Jack Wynne and Jordan Lavis getting more of the ball the Power hit back in the second quarter to only trail by a goal at half time, 3 goals to 2 goals. The third quarter saw Henty dominate again and they moved out to nearly a four goal lead at the last change. It was all the Power in the last quarter with Jack Schilg, James Webb, Jakeb Hanlon and Hayden Brockley all playing well. Jacob Kingston and Tom Webb also had their moments as the Power kicked 2.5 for the quarter but just fell short losing 4.6 to 5.5. This sees the Power finish in 4th sport and take on Jindera next Sunday at Walbundrie.
Netball
A grade has been playing great netball in the past weeks, winning well against teams above them on the ladder. Power girls continued their good form taking on a much taller team in the 2nd placed Henty and they were determined to make Henty earn every pass. Henty were unable to break away from Power in the first half. Henty were leading by just 9 goals at the main break and they came out firing in the second half. Power kept applying pressure in defence, Sally Smith was great taking some very nice intercepts. Tam Lavis and Brooke Schilg worked tirelessly trying to shut down the slick attacking play of Henty. Erin Lavis was outstanding in Centre, passing beautifully to the goalies. Bec Barber and Hayley Kuschert kept Henty's defenders on their toes, moving well in the circle and creating scoring opportunities. Cindy Charlton took to the court for the first time in A Grade and combined brilliantly with Sally Smith. Henty took the game up a level, and their quick passes and accurate goaling, soon had them building on their lead to put the game out of Power's reach. Power fought to the end, and to our credit were the second team for the season to score more than 40 goals against Henty going down 65 to 41. This was the last game for the year for Power A Grade, Power girls have had an awesome year and were unlucky to miss out on finals - finishing in 7th place. Well done A Graders.
Power B grade needed a win against Henty to lock in 5th position on the ladder and guarantee a finals campaign. With this motivation, Power started strongly, leading by 5 goals at the end of the first quarter, Power's confidence was growing. Henty came back at Power, but Power had their measure and maintained the lead. Rosie Dye had brilliant game in GS, matched for height, Rosie had to work the circle to find space. Lauren Harders, Lou Clohessy, Karina Collins and Grace Hanrahan combined well in attack to keep the ball moving forward. Tess O'Donoghue had a great game in WD, shutting down Henty’s WA drives into attack. Tam Lavis, Meghan Hanrahan and Cindy Charlton are proving to be a formidable defensive combination, which Henty had great difficulty getting passes through to their goalies. Power had the game in their control in the second half and went on to win by 9 goals, 39 to 30. Power B grade now take on Culcairn in the Elimination final next Sunday at Walbundrie. Go Power!!
C Grade season came to an end with a 25 goal lost to Henty. With the finals out of reach the girls were all tried in different positions, with Stacey Amor having a good game in centre court and Jordan Bryon also playing well in centre court and in goals but it wasn’t enough as the Power went down 40 to 15. This sees the girls finish 8th spot on the ladder.
C Reserve wrapped up 5th spot on the ladder with a comprehensive 31 goal win against Henty. With Carmel Kingston and Kristy Tickle dominating in centre court for the Power and Casey Webb continuing her superb season in defence the Power was able to come away with a 49 to 18 win. This wins sees the girls take on Lockhart next Sunday in an elimination final at Walbundrie, so all the best to the girls.
Intermediates finished the season on top of the ladder with a 29 goal win against Henty. Erica Hanrahan was dominate in defence for the Power and with Chelsea Brindley having a fine game in centre court, passing the ball into the goal shooters beautifully, the Power always had the game in control. Tess Wilson was showing her class in attack and with Carolyn Svarc and Sophie Hanrahan alternating in goals Henty has no answer for these sharp shooters. The Power went on to win 54 to 25. By finishing on top, the girls have next weekend off before taking on Jindera, the only side to defeat them during the season, in the second semi final.
The Juniors also finished on top of the ladder with only one loss for the season after a 22 goal win against Henty. Brooke Wilson was superb in attack for the Power while Lucy Bartlett was strong in defence. Sarah Chandler continued her good season with another strong game as the Power ran away with a 37 to 15 win. This sees the Power take on Walla in the second semi final at Walbundrie on Saturday 10th of September.
The Mods had a big win by 21 goals. Maddy Dean assisted all the junior players well and with Bridie Lavis shooting 2 of her 3 goals for the season and Lily Hanrahan shooting her first 2 goals for the season the Mods were able to run out 23 to 2 winners. Coach Grace Hanrahan would like to that all the girls for a great year with the older players playing brilliantly and the younger ones making huge improvement to their games over the season.
