The Netballers show the way for CDHBU Power against Brock-Burrum at Coreen on the weekend winning 6 out of the 7 games, while the footballers struggled against Brock-Burrum unable to register a win from the 4 games.
CDHBU Seniors put up a game effort against the 4th placed Brock-Burrum before going down by 73 points. Brock-Burrum was quickly out of the blocks, banging on 5 quick goals before the Power had hardly touched the ball. But the Power through Brad Talbot & Jarrod Hanrahan were able to get their hands on the ball and Jordan Ray and Clint Renner were able to register goals as the Power went to the first break trailing 6.1 to 2.1. With Sean Hanrahan having a great game in defence, Aaron Ray chasing and tackling hard on his wing and Doug Lavis winning plenty of the ball the Power made Brock-Burrum earn every possession in the second quarter as the Saints went to half time with a 34 point lead, 8.6 to 3.2. Marc Playford in his debut show promising signs for the Power in the second half along with Robbie Dye & John Conroy, but poor disposal cost the Power as the Saints lead 11.12 to 3.3 at the last change. The Power never gave up in the last quarter and had more of the ball but just couldn’t put the score on the board as the Saints won 16.12 to 5.5.
The Reserves went totally outclassed by 126 points in their game against Brock-Burrum. The Saints dominated from the start against the Power and it was the old firm of Paul Phibbs, Ian Bock, Nick Hogan & Denis Tomlinson that tried hard for the Power. While Dustyn Nixon was a shining light at full back for the Power and Justin Robb provided run in the mid field but it wasn’t enough as the Power went down 19.21 to 1.3.
The Under 17’s went down by 29 points in their game against Brock-Burrum. Brock-Burrum made a good start getting out to 13 point lead by quarter time. Damien & Ben Wilson tried hard to get the Power back into the game, but inaccurate kicking by the Power was costly going into half time with the same number of scoring shots but trailing by 15 points, 6.3 to 3.6. Luke Murphy, Carlton Lohse and Mason Nixon tried hard in the third quarter but the Saints were able to increase the lead to 29 points by the last change, 9.6 to 4.7. The last quarter was a tight affair with Kade Wilson, Marc Playford & Kane Barbour hold firm as only each side could muster a point each , the final score being 9.7 to 4.8.
The Under 14’s went down in a thriller in the thick fog by 2 points to Brock-Burrum. In a game that was close from the start Bryn Kingston was outstanding for the Power, along with Jack Wynne, Jake Boyle and Lachlan Darby. But the Power could never get in front at any of the breaks, down by 2 points at quarter time, 1 point at half time & 2 points at the last change. Young players Jim Hanrahan & Lachlan Mitchell gave there all but it wasn’t enough as the Power lost 2.2 to 2.4.
Netball
A grade, Power started strongly against Brock-Burrum with a fast paced opening quarter. Julie Lavis showed her versatility, playing a great game in defence then moving into to goal shooter, combining very nicely with Hayley Kuschert. Erin Lavis was brilliant in wing attack with some beautiful passes into the goalies. Brooke Schilg had a day out, taking plenty of intercepts and making her opponent work for every pass. Power held a 15 goal lead at half time, and maintained the momentum for the second half to stamp their authority on the game. Power treated the spectators to an impressive display of netball with the game flowing beautifully in attack and Power's defence working hard to deny Brock- Burrum any chance to score. Power played four quarters of consistent netball to come away with their highest winning margin for the season so far winning 60 to 28.
B grade started with confidence and controlled the play well to have a 4 goal lead at the first change. Brock-Burrum came back at Power in the second quarter, Power's confidence faltered, allowing Brock-Burrum to turn the game in their favour. Louise Clohessy continued her great form with another outstanding game in wing attack. Rosie Dye stood tall in goals and was on the receiving end of some nicely placed passes. Meghan Hanrahan 'had a run' in goal defence and played a great game, getting her hand to loads of passes. Determined to regain the lead Power stormed the third quarter with a 19 to 7 goal scoring spree. Power kept up the pressure to hold off Brock-Burrum and take the win, winning 52 to 43.
C Grade suffered their second loss in a row when they went down by 6 goals to Brock-Burrum. Stacey Amor fought hard in defence for the Power and Bec Longmire was shot well in attack but it wasn’t enough as the Power went down 31 to 37.
C Reserve made it two wins in a row with a 5 goal win against Brock-Burrum. The Power got off to a great start with Lana Rhodes sending in some terrific passes to Emily Bush who was on fire in goals. Brock-Burrum made some positional changes in the second quarter which quieted down the Power, but to their credit the girls were able to hang on to win. Casey Webb continue her superb season in defence to be the Power best player, while Paige Rhodes was great in attack as the Power got home 39 to 34.
The Intermediates had work really hard to retain their unbeaten start to the season, coming from behind to register a 5 goal win. The Power girls had an even first quarter but then struggled in the 2nd and Brock-Burrum was able to take a 1 goal lead into half time. Sophie Hanrahan was swung into defence and Caroline Svarc into goals in the second half. Caz was able to shoot accurately and there was plenty of "argie bargey" play on the wing. Sophie & Erica Hanrahan were strong in defence and the Power was able to lift in the second half as the girls went onto win 34 to 29.
The juniors started slowly in the game against the BB Saints, but as the quarter progressed the girls settled and worked as a team. Claire Wilson was in good form, rarely missing a goal. She was well supported by Brooke Wilson and Power had a handy break at quarter time. From this point on the girls continued to team well, with Emma Wilson in great form in defence. Lucy Bartlett and Sarah Chandler also played well. The girls came away with a came away with a 46 – 10 victory.
The Mods had a 10 goal win against Brock Burrum. All the girls played well with Elaina Brewster staring all over the court and Emily Boyle showing great team spirit drawing all the younger girls into the game as the girls had a really good win 13 to 3.
This week’s sees the Power has take on Jindera at Jindera.
Members Draw
The members draw will be held this Thursday at the club rooms between 6:30pm & 8:00pm. The draw is up to $400 and the Member must be in attendance to be eligible to win.
Coreen Premiership Reunion
The football club is hold premiership reunion for the Coreen 1980, 1987 & 1991 Senior sides and the 1991 Reserves side on 16th July out at Coreen.
Call to Arms
The club will be help raising money for men’s Cancer through wearing yellow arms band’s on Saturday 16th July matches.
