An emotional charged day saw CDHBU have 4 victories in the netball and 3 in the football against former Coreen League rival, Coleambally.
With the sudden passing of Under 14 football Andrew Bush on the Friday, the Football and Netball clubs wish their deepest sympathy to Darrell, Tracey, Emily, Matthew and Isabel on the passing of Andrew.
A minute silence was held before each game and before the seniors the whole club, footballers and netballers, along with the Coleambally Football and Netball Club lined up in respect of Andrew.
It was an emotional start to the day for the Under 14’s who came away victors by 116 points. The boys got off to a fast start kicking 7 goals to 1 in the first quarter to have the game won at quarter time. Jakob Bainbridge was on fire kicking 6 goals to bring his tally to 50 for the season. Damien Wilson also continued his wonderful season as the Power held the Blues scoreless for the rest of the game. Youngsters Jesse O’Donoghue and Nick Kershaw also played well while Madden Lohse was also good as the boys ran out winners 18.14 to 1.0.
The thirds moved to second spot on the ladder with a 26 point win against the Blues. With again Corey Smith on fire up forward the boys raced out to an early lead kicking 4.2 to 1.1 in the first quarter. Hayden Filliponi was winning plenty of the ball and along with Alex Lohse and Dylan Hanley the Power extended the lead at half time to 32 points, 6.5. to 1.3. The second half became a slog for the boys with Marc Playford, Kade Wilson and Joel Kershaw playing well, but the Coleambally boys continued to fight hard. Smith with 9 goals was able to see the boys win 11.8 to 7.7 with a big game this week against the top of the ladder Holbrook.
The Reserves scored their third victory of the season with a 17 point win against Coleambally. The boys were out of the blocks early with Alf Clark kicking an early goal. But the game slowed in the scoring department as the Power lead at quarter time 2.2 to 1.3. Inaccurate kicking at goal in the second quarter cost the Power a bigger lead at half time as they lead 3.8 to 3.4. Peter Rippingale was having a great game at half forward and along with Steve Kerr the Power was able to get to an 8 point at the last change 6.8 to 5.6. Dale Maino played a great game in defence and along with Denis Tomlinson were able to hold Coleambally to one point in the last quarter as the Power won 7.12 to 5.7.
The seniors put in one of their better efforts of the season to go down by 49 points in their game against Coleambally. The boys started well applying plenty of pressure on the Blues and Luke Melville was rewarded with a goal, but two bad turn overs cost goals as Coleambally led 3.3 to 1.1 at quarter time. The boys played well in the second quarter with Paul Phibbs turning back the clock with a great display and George Neely dominating the ruck, but bad kicking at goal cost the Power kicking 1.5 for the quarter as the Blues led 6.3 to 2.6 at half time. The match got away from the Power in the third term as Coleambally were able to kick some quick goals as they led 10.8 to 3.7 at the last change. Luke Melville and Brayden Kingston continue to present at half forward in the last term and Clint Renner rewarded them finishing with 4 goals. Jordan Ray, Darren Damaso and Martin White held firm in defence as the score finished 13.10 to 5.7.
The Mods were able to get the day off to a good start with 9 goal victory with an 18 to 9 win against Coleambally. The girls are getting better as the season continues as Amelia Walton played a good game, along with Grace Kingston and Brooke Wilson.
The Junior netballers continued their winning form with a big 52 to 17 win against the Blues. Sophie Hanrahan continued her good season being named the best, while Rachel Hanrahan & Zoe Wilson were also good players.
The Intermediates didn’t have a game.
C Grade registered their fourth win for the season with a 36 to 24 win against Coleambally. Emily Bush played a superb game for the Power to be name the best, while Paige Rhodes in goals and Kristy Tickle also played well.
B Grade won their first game of the season with a 10 goal victory against the Blues. With Sam Danswan on fire in goals and along with Grace Hanrahan and Erin Lavis playing well, the girls were able to celebrate a win for the first time this season.
A Grade went down by 3 goals, 34 to 37 in their game against Coleambally. With a chance of registering their first win all the girls tried hard but just couldn’t quite get over the line. Sally Smith played well in her return from overseas, while youngster Megan Leahy continued her good season. Brianna Hanrahan was also good for the Power.
