CDHBU played Lockhart on the weekend at Lockhart and it was again the junior’s teams that were able to provide the wins with the junior netball winning and the Under 14’s & 17’s football teams registering victories.
The Mods start the day off with a good win against Lockhart 19 to 2. It was a great team effort and all players showing good skills and improvement from the start of the season. Tiarna Smith, in centre court and in goals, was a good player for the Power along with Chloe Gilcrist who also played in goals and centre court.
The Junior netballers had another win beating the Demons 30 to 9. It was another awesome win by the girls with good skills shown throughout the match. Sarah Chandler inCentre court & defence was named the Power’s best, she was well supported by Claire Wilson, in Goals and centre court, and Lucy Bartlett in centre court.
The Intermediates went down in a thriller to Lockhart going down by 2, 35 to 37. Up against the second placed Demons the game was close all day with the scores level a number of times before just falling short at the final siren. Beth Chester & Meg Clohessy in centre court were good players for the Power while Caroline Svarc was also good in defence and centre court.
C Grade went down 23 to 34 to Lockhart. Lockhart got off to a good start but the girls fought hard in the second half. Well done to all the young players that filled in. Amy Lealiifnao in centre court played well and she was well supported by defenders Erica Hanrahan and Sally Casey.
B Grade went down by 20 goals, 18 to Lockhart’s 38. The girls fought out the game to the end with all players putting in. Erin Lavis and Georgina Ross were good in the centre of the court, while Sharni O’Donoghue played well in the goals.
A Grade struggled going down 27 to the Demon’s 78. Brianna Hanarhan in goals, Tam Lavis in defence and Lou Clohessy in centre court all tried hard for the Power.
The under 14 footballers started the day off well with an 87 point victory against Lockhart. With Damien Wilson on fire in the centre of the ground and key forwards Madden Lohse and Jakob Bainbridge well on top the Power was able to race out to an early lead, leading 10.3 to 0.1 at half time. Lockhart took the contest up to the boys in the second half, but with Joe Brewster and Ryan Mills still finding plenty of the football the Power was able to increase the lead. Youngsters Finn Reeves and Jack Wynne was also superb as the Power won 13.10 to 0.1.
An 11 goal haul by Captain Corey Smith lead the Under 17’s to a 97 point victory against the Demons. The boys were quick out of the blocks and with midfielders Hayden Filliponi and Kane Barbour on top, Smith as able to capitalise as the race out to lead 13.3 to 3.2 at half time. Marc Playford continued his great season in the backline and along with fellow backline player Josh Dutton the Power was able to hold Lockhart and increase the lead. Youngster Rhys Macartney was also good at the Power ran out winners 22.7 to 6.6.
The Reserves went down by 11 goals in their game against Lockhart. After a promising start, were the boys were even in the second quarter, the weight of number enabled the Demons to pull away. Sean & Michael Moffatt were good players in their rare appearance for the Power while Denis Tomlinson and Owen Smith fought hard against quality opponents. Ian Bock was consistent as ever and Daniel Barton improvement continued, but Lockhart was able to run the game out 14.8 to 3.8 winners.
The CDHBU Seniors lost by 92 points in their game against Lockhart. After an early Clint Renner goal, the Demons were able to get on top as they lead at quarter time 4.4 to 1.0. Lockhart were able to continue to increase the second quarter despite the effort of ruckman George Neely and the continually presenting of forward Luke Melville as they lead 9.9 to 1.4. Sean Hanrahan moved to backline in the second half to be a very good player and Jordan Ray continued his improvement but the Demons continued to build on the lead, leading 15.12 to 2.6 at the last break. The last quarter was the Powers best and they continued to pressure the Demons and with goals to Aaron Ray and Corey Smith the score finished 4.7 to 18.15.
A family Bon Fire is being held this Saturday night after the game at Peter & Mary Hanrahan’s “Cosgrove”. Food is supplied and BYO Drinks. The cost will be $10 per family or $5 per single.
This week sees the Power play Coleambally at Coreen.
