CDHBU has bowed out the Hume League Finals race after they went down to Jindera by 34 points in their Semi Final clash at Walbundrie on Sunday.
With the season on the line the Power made a great start with Jeremy Stevenson getting an early goal. Nathan Rhodes was everywhere as the Power had all the play and when Mat Walker got on the scoreboard the lead increased to 14 points. Jindera goaled with their first entry forward before Walker replied to restore the margin. But the Power stopped and Jindera got on a roll as they kicked the next 4 goals to go to quarter time 12 points up, 5.2.32 to 3.2.20
The second quarter saw Rhodes continued to play well on his wing and with Tim Cooper & Matt Howard going well in defence Power held Jindera to just 1.1 for the quarter. With Walker & Payne kicking goals the Power reduced the margin to 3 points at half time, 6.3.39 to 5.6.36.
After an early goal to Jindera third quarter, the Power got back in the game with a goal to Payne and with plenty of the ball in the forward line but they could only manage a string of behinds to level the scores at 7.3 to 6.9. But for the Power this seem to spark the Bulldogs into action as they kicked 5 of the next 6 goals to take a 25 point lead into the last change, 12.4.76 to 7.9.51.
The Power tried hard in the last quarter but Jindera had too many answers as they finished the Power’s season with a 15.9.99 to 9.11.65 victory.
Nathan Rhodes & Tim Cooper tried hard for the Power, while youngster Mat Walker was always dangerous with 3 goals. Alex Wallis was presenting well until a knee injury slowed him down in the third quarter while Matt Howard and Andrew Ollington had their moments.
With a Preliminary final up for grabs in the Reserves between the Power and the Giants, it was the Power that got off to great start with a three goal first quarter giving the boys a 17 point lead at quarter time, with Cody Keenes and Ryan Rhodes leading the way for the Power.
The second quarter the Giants hit back hard cutting back the lead to 8 points at the main break. Once again it was Sean Hanrahan and Tyson Burdon both getting plenty of the ball for the Power.
The third quarter was a hard contest between teams with both giving everything they had, up forward Brad Lewis and Damian Talbot where both good in front of goals with 2 goals each for the game, but at three quarter time it was all even.
So going into the last quarter it was going to be tight contest with the Power kicking the first 2 goals we had a handy break, but unfortunately for the Power the Giants kicked 2 goals in the last minutes of the game, and it was a heart breaking lost for the Power by 2 points, 7.6.48 to 7.4.46.
