CDHBU played their first game for competition points last Saturday at Coreen and came home with three wins from three games.
The fourths, under new coach Pat Minogue, started their season with a 58 point win over an undermanned Walla outfit. A few of the boys made their Hume League debut in Walla jumpers but this did not dampen their enthusiasm with James Tilders recording a goal assist for Walla with his first possession in football.
However, with Brayden Curren kicking 6 goals, Darcy Melksham dominating the mid field, and Deaken Clancy taking strong contested marks the Power won every quarter and recorded their first victory of the year. Jack and Harry Dunn played solid games. It’s great to see so many new faces in the under 14’s.

Tommy Renshaw’s reserves started the season off in style with a 53 point victory over the Hoppers. Veteran Doug Lavis booted 5 goals thanks largely to perfect delivery from mid fielders Tommy Renshaw and Ryan Rhodes. Russell Anderson made a fine return to the club and Nathan Allen dominated the ruck. Jesse Weidner chimed in with two goals whilst Damien Talbot had a solid game.

The seniors also began their season with a win, although for a while they had their work cut out.
The first quarter seen both teams move the ball quickly from one end to the other in a free flowing style that relied more on attack than defensive accountability. Luke Cowan had three first quarter goals along with contributions from Corey Smith. The Power had a 19 point buffer at quarter time.
The second quarter seen Walla kicking with the breeze and they began to make the most of it by drawing to within 13 points soon after the break. The Power struggled to defend Walla’s slick ball movement and with some defensive mistakes as well as ill-disciplined free kicks they looked like they were in for hard day at the office. The Power, however, still held a 19 point lead at the long break thanks to the great work of Tim Cooper down back and Matt Ross in the ruck.
Some soul searching took place during the half time break and the Power responded with a five goal to one third quarter. Corey Smith was dangerous up forward and Coach Payne booted his first goal at his new club. Jeremy Stevenson began to dominate the game and Nathan Rhodes cut a swathe through the opposition with his blistering pace.
The Power lifted their intensity at the contest and dominated the contested ball in the final quarter Debutant Dylan Cornell was winning some possessions up forward CDHBU eventually ran out 53 point victors over a much improved Walla outfit.
