Power went down to last year’s grand finalist by 103 points in their clash at Coreen.The Power had a bad start with three people pulling out before the game including coach Brad Talbot, as Holbrook had the better of the start kicking 4 goals to 1 in the first quarter to take a 19 point lead in to the first change. The second quarter was all Holbrook as they totally destroy the Power kicking 9 goals 7 to no score to take an 80 point lead in to half time. The side battled on gamely after the break with Sean Hanrahan having a great game at full back, while Matt Ross gave support. Onballers in Joel Rippingale and Michael Kreun battle well against good opposition while Hamish Payne gave his all as the Power held Holbrook to 2 goals and kicked one themselves for the quarter. Steve Kerr and Charlie Cay continued to battle hard in the last quarter as Holbrook ran out 18.18 to 3.5 winners.
The Reserves put in a brave effort against 4th placed Holbrook before going down by 44 points. It was a slow start for the Power as the Brookers held the Power to 1 point to take a 20 point lead into the first change. Through Mark Tilders, Ian Bock and Clint Renner the fought back in the second quarter as they kicked three goals to only trail by 13 points at half time. Matthew Mclachlan, Dillon Selby, Robbie Dye and Kristian Cargill continue to give the Power drive as they stayed in the contest as Holbrook only lead by 19 points at the last change. The Brookers ran away with the contest in the last quarter as they kicked 5 goals to 1 to run out 13.4 to 6.2 winners.
The Thirds kept their finals hopes alive with a thrilling 4 point in a high standard game against Holbrook. The boys were quick out of the blocks and kicked the first 3 goals of the game to take a 20 point lead at quarter time. The second quarter saw Holbrook fight back kicking 5 goals for the quarter and this enabled them to take a 6 point lead into half time. Jakob Hanrahan was dangerous up forward and with Jay O’Donoghue playing another great game the Power fought back. Nathan Allen and Rhys Macartney provided plenty of drive and along with Lachie Darby, Jack Wynne and Jarrod Ballhause enabled the Power to take 8 point lead into the last change. The last quarter saw players from both sides giving their all, and with the Power kicking 1 goal 5 for the quarter the Power was able to hang on for a 7.10 to 7.6 victory.
The Fourths went down by 21 points to the ladder leaders Holbrook. Holbrook took it to the Power in the first quarter as they kicked 3 goals to no score to take a 21 point lead at quarter time. Through Kane Mills, Jesse O’Donoghue and Finn Reeves the Power fought hard in the second quater and got on the scoreboard to trail by 21 points at half time. The Brookers extend their lead in third quarter to lead by 32 points by the last change. Bryn Kingston, Matthew Walker, Nick Kershaw, Cam Wilson and Jimmy Hanrahan continued to fight the game out for the Power as they outscored the Brookers to go down 7.5 to 4.2.
A grade took to the court with confidence against Holbrook this week. Power got off to a strong start with their best first quarter so far for the season, outscoring Holbrook by 8 goals. Powers defenders were outstanding, Sally Smith (GK), and Grace Hanrahan(GD), shut down Holbrook’s goalies with their tight defence. Power had a handy 13 goal lead at the main break. Powers mid court, Brooke Schilg, Sharni O'Donoghue & Karina Collins were brilliant, they applied pressure to Holbrook’s attacking play and created a number of turn overs. Power young guns in goals, Tess Wilson & Sophie Hanrahan were dominating the circle, both players shot beautifully. Power had settled into a nice flowing game and their patient play was well rewarded, great to see all the hard work at training making its way on to the court. Holbrook could do little to stem Power's ascendency, as Power went on to win comfortably 47 to Holbrook 25.
B grade, Power was disappointed with their efforts last week against Jindera and was determined to bounce back with a win. Holbrook are tough competitors and are sitting in 2nd place on the ladder, Power knew they would have rise to the challenge to win the game. It was a closely contested match from the start, just 1 goal separating the two teams at half time. Tam Lavis (GD), and Meghan Hanrahan (GK), worked tirelessly in the circle and took some very nice intercepts. Rosie Dye and Lauren Harders were providing Power with plenty of options in the goal circle. Power turned the game in their favour with a fantastic third quarter and went into the final quarter with a 5 goal lead. Holbrook fought back at Power, but a telling intercept from Lou Clohessy in the dying minutes of the game saw Power hold on to win by 2 goals as the Power won 37 to Holbrook 35.
Power took on a very strong opponent this week in Holbrook, who has had a season of success that has often mirrored the success Power has achieved this season. From the first quarter, Power encountered both a physically and mentally challenging opponent. In the wet conditions, Holbrook had the edge in the first quarter. Heather Mills was powerful in GK, defensively blocking Holbrook and driving power forward at every chance. At half time Power were down by five goals. Jenna Lane (GS) had a fantastic game, moving well in the circle and providing great support in attack. The final quarter was crucial for Power. With seven goals down, Power needed to increase their on-court pressure against Holbrook. Power came out firing with five quick goals. Holbrook kept Power under pressure, not easily conceding control. In the last five minutes, Power converted two quick goals to draw with Holbrook. There was a strong tussle in the final minute but the score remain unchanged as Power and Holbrook finished at 30 each.
Power had a great first quarter keeping pace with Holbrook. Laura Mardling played an impressive game, gaining crucial turnovers and providing plenty of drive through the midcourt. Holbrook increased the pressure in the second quarter however Power did not concede and continued to fight for the lead. Entering into the third quarter, Power was trailing Holbrook by six goals. Holbrook came out firing against Power, increasing their on-court pressure and capitalised on Power’s errors. Holbrook kept Power to a three goal quarter while adding fourteen to their total. Lauren Playford played a strong game in WD causing problems to Holbrook’s attack through the midcourt. Entering into the fourth quarter Power was down by seventeen goals. Power kept fighting, determined to close the gap. Power matched Holbrook goal for goal. Unfortunately in the end Power went down 23 to Holbrook 40.
Inters game had all the makings of a close match, Holbrook, 3rd on the ladder, were looking to displace Power from top spot. Power was slow out of blocks this week and the scores were level at the end of the first quarter. Power got their game going in the second quarter and had a 4 goal lead at half time. Sophie Hanrahan (GD/GK) was on fire, taking intercepts and driving the ball into attack. Grace Kingston (C) played a great game and forced Holbrook to change her opponent at every quarter. Emma Wilson had her usual outstanding game in WA and was finding plenty of space. Holbrook came back at Power in the second half, but Power held them off to win by 4 goals with the Power winning 34 to Holbrook’s 30.
The Juniors went down in a thriller to top of the table Holbrook in the game. Ella Kingston continued her great form while Amelia Walton gave her all as the Power were in the contest till the final siren as they went down 21 to 20.
The Mods lead early in their game and were playing brilliantly, but the Holbrrok girls fought hard and took the lead. Coach Grace Hanrahan was very impressed with how all the girls are improving each week, with Olivia Hughes, Lillian Walton and Rebecca Carroll all playing great games as the Power went down 3 to 13.
