The Under 14’s are through to the Grand Final after they knocked off Henty by 9 points in the Preliminary Final. After losing twice during the season to the top of the ladder Swampies, the Power boys were determined to end their season. The game started with again the Power dominating but unable to put the score on the board before Corey Walton was able to slot home the first goal. Henty also score a goal as the Power took a 1 point lead into quarter time 1.1 to 1.0. The second quarter saw the defence of both sides go up a level with Jack Schilg, Andrew Phibbs, John Webb and Lachie Darby all playing well and the scoring slowed to a trickle with only a point each for the quarter as the Power led 1.2 to 1.1 at half time. Jacob Kingston was able to kick a brilliant goal from the boundary in the third quarter as the scores were level half way through. The Power was able to kick two late points to take a two point lead into the last change 2.5 to 2.3. Onballers Jay O’Donoghue, Jake Boyle and Jack Wynne were again having superb games and coach Mark O’Donoghue asked for a really big effort in the last quarter with the first goal really important. And big Hayden Brockley delivered for the Power kicking the goal with the strong defence led by Schilg holding firm and youngsters Kane Mills and Jesse O’Donoghue holding their own against the bigger opponents the Power was able to hold Henty scoreless for the quarter as the Power won 3.6 to 2.3 with Schilg winning the best on ground from the league. This sees the Power Under 14’s into their third Grand Final in four years since joining the Hume League. Good luck to Coach O’Donoghue and his young players in the quest for victory over Osborne this Saturday morning.
