It was an emotional charged day for the Under 14's the boys and they were able to come away with a 22 point win against Jindera. The boys started well and were dominating the play and some smart play by Kane Mills enabled Jordan Lavis to kick the first goal. The boys continued to have all the play but some sloppy kicking at goal cost the Power as they lead 1.4 to no score at the first break. Jay O'Donoghue was dominating in the midfield along with Jack Wynne as the boys continued to have all the play in the second quarter. Andrew Phibbs and Lachie Darby were superb for the Power at half back as well but the Power just struggled to get the score on the board and when Jindera kicked a goal on the half time siren the Power only lead 1.6 to 1.0 at half time.
The second half started the same as the first with the Power dominating the play with Hayden Brockley playing a good game in the ruck but the Power was unable to put the score on the board, but then coach Mark O'Donoghue pulled a brilliant moved. Jack Schilg who was a proving impassable at centre half back moved into the midfield and immediately kicked a great goal and minutes later set up Lavis for his second as the Power went to the last change leading 3.7 to 1.0. The last quarter saw Jindera put everything on the line in the first 5 minutes but the backline held firm with the Bulldogs scoring 3 points before Schilg iced the victory with his second goal. The Power continued to attack and Corey Walton was rewarded for all his hard work with a goal before a late goal to Jindera saw the Power finish 5.7 to 2.3. Jay O’Donoghue was awarded the league’s Best Player on the Ground. Next week sees the Power take on Howlong on Sunday. Corowa Sportspower award – Jack Schilg and Jay O’Donoghue, Guy Street Store – Lachie Darby, Brocks Café – Andrew Phibbs, Football Club Awards – Hayden Brockley and Jack Wynne, Ladies Committee Awards – Corey Walton and Kane Mills.
C Reserve has moved into next week’s 1st semi final with a 9 goal win against Lockhart. The Power started strongly with Paige Rhodes and Emily Bush starting well in attack but the Power lost Mel Dunn to injury 15 minutes into the game as Power went to the quarter time break leading 9 to 6. The game became tight in the second quarter with Evie Barbour and Lana Rhodes feeding the shooters well as the Power held a two goal lead at half time 18-16. The third quarter was were the Power pulled away with Jenna Lane and Casey Webb defending well and with Tess Wilson controlling the centre and Paige Rhodes and Bush shooting well the Power took a 7 goal lead in the last change 27-20. The girls all performed well in the last quarter as they extend the lead to win 37 to 29 and book a game against Walla next Sunday. It was a great effort by all the girls with Paige Rhodes taking out the umpire’s best on court award.
B Grade’s season came to end when they were defeated by 22 goals by Culcairn in their Elimination Final. The Power started will with Karina Collins passing well and with Lauren Harders and Rosie Dye shooting well the Power had the first 4 goals on the board. The Lions started to peg back the lead and hit the front before quarter time to lead at the first change by 2 goals. Tess O’Donoghue and Tamara Lavis were trying hard for the Power but Culcairn was able to extend their lead to 7 goals on half time. Lou Clohessy and Sharni O’Donoghue were providing drive in the mid court but the Lions were able to hold the lead and extend it to 9 goals at the last change. The last quarter was all Culcairn with defenders Meghan Hanrahan and Cindy Charlton battling the odds as Culcairn ran out 52 to 30 winners.
The Under 17's season also came to an end after they went down by 71 points to Osborne. The Power was slow out of the blocks with Osborne kicking 1.3 before smart play by Kade Wilson enabled Alex Dickinson to get the Power on the board. But the Power seemed to be struggling against attacking play of Osborne before a late goal to Damien Wilson saw the Power down 2.0 to 4.3 at quarter time. Osborne was more desperate than the Power and only a brilliant goal by Jakob Hanrahan keep the Power in touch at half time, as they trailed 7.6 to 3.0. It all went downhill in the second half with undiscipline play saw 3 players sent off in different incidents as the Tigers ran amok. Justin Roach and Luke Murphy tried hard in defence but it was to no avail as Osborne lead 12.8 to 3.1 at the last change. Tom Moloney, Hanrahan and Kade Wilson continued to battle hard in the last quarter and along with Damien Wilson the Power was able to kick two goals through Dickinson and Damien but Osborne extend their lead to win 15.12 to 5.1.
