The Seniors went down by 146 points in their clash with the second placed Saints. With 4 players needing to double up after already playing due to injuries the Power were totally overrun in the first quarter as the Saints kicking with the wind blew the Power away kicking 10 goals 3 to 2 points in the first quarter. The Power played better in the second quarter with Steve Talbot and Sean Hanrahan playing well in defence enabling Glenn Edwards to kick Power’s first goal as the Saints went into half time leading 15.7 to 1.4. The Power were better when the Saints had the wind in the third quarter as they kicked 6 goals. Coach Richard Leahy was everywhere trying his heart out, while first gamer Dale Maino was showing promise as the Saints lead 21.12 to 1.4 at the last change. The boys continued to give their all in the last quarter with the Ray brothers, Jordan and Aaron, and Joel Willett able to hold the Saints to only 3 goals and Sean Moffatt was able to snag a goal on the siren as the Power went down 2.6 to 24.20.
The reserves lost by 52 points in their game against second placed Brock-Burrum. The Power made a slow start to the game as the Saints kicked with the wind to get the first 5 goals to lead 5.3 to no score at quarter time. Doug Lavis made a return for the first time this season to give the Power a present in the centre of the ground and with Ben Nixon well on top at full back the Power was to kick two goals to trail 6.5 to 2.0. Michael Linklater was good in the back pocket while Justin Robb continued his good form as the Power held the Saints with the wind with the score 3.0 to 7.9 at three quarter time. Lack of players hurt the Power as the Saints were able to run away in the last quarter as the final score being 10.11 to 3.1.
The thirds blew their chance of a top two finish when they went down to the Saints. Needing to win the last two games to finish in the top two, it was the Saints who were out of the blocks quickly kicking 2.3 to no score. The Power never recovered from this as Dylan Hanley and Alex Lohse tried hard to get CDHBu back in the game but the Saints increased their lead to 4.5 to 1.0 at half time. It was not much better in the second half with Jordan Ray, Ben Wilson and Dale Maino all trying hard but the Saints were a better team as they ran out winners 7.6 to 1.4.
The fourths continued their good season with a 65 point win against Brock-Burrum. With Damien Wilson and Jakob Bainbridge on fire early the Power was quickly out of the blocks racing to a quarter time lead 5.4 to no score. With youngster Bryn Kingston and Adrian Roach also playing well the Power was able to increase the lead to 9.8 to no score. Lochie Darby, Ryan Mills & Jay O’Donoghue as were good contributors as the Power ran out winners 10.11 to 1.1.
A Grade put in a great effort before going down in their game against Brock-Burrum Saints 33 to 41. The girls had their chances and the difference was just one bad quarter. Megan Leahy’s great season continued with a superb game in centre court. Sally Smith and Karina Collins both in defence were also good players for the Power.
B Grade put in their best performance for the season to run out 20 goal victory winning 54 to 34. The girls are coming together in the last few weeks with great teamwork as they registered their second win in the last 4 weeks. Sharni O’Donoghue set the tone for the day in centre court while Julie Lavis in goals was good for the Power. Georgina Ross in centre was good for the Power as well.
C Grade went down to a classy Brock-Burrum 19 to 63. The score was not a true reflection on the effort that girls put in. Kristy Trickle in defence was the Power’s best, while Amy Lealiifaino in centre court was consistent as ever. Paige Rhodes in goals also tried hard for the Power.
The Intermediates cemented their finals appearance with a 5 goals win, 30 to Brock-Burrum’s 25. It was a close hard fought win in windy conditions. The whole team worked well together with Hayley Scott in centre court and defence being the Power’s best. She was well supported by Meg Clohessy in centre court and Chelsea Brindley in centre court which should see the Power finish in 5th spot.
The Junior netballers had a one goal victory in the top of the table clash with Brock-Burrum winning 18 to 17. It was a close game all day as the top two sides went at it. The girls held a 3 goal lead for most of the day until the Saints made a play in the last quarter to level the scores before the girls got the last score of the day. Erica & Sophie Hanrahan were superb in defence for the Power while Lucy Bartlett in centre court also played well.
The Mods played a game between themselves with the Red CDHBU winning 10 to blacks 6. All the girls were able to get a run in what was a very competitive game.
