The CDHBU Power A Grade netballers are feeling grand final ready according to coach Catherine Wood as they prepare in the lead up to premiership game this Saturday
Coach Wood told the Free Press that although the team has had two key players drop out of the finals campaign due to injury, the squad was extremely excited for the grand final against Brocklesby Burrumbuttock.
“We have worked really hard this year and are looking forward to giving it everything we have in this weekend’s final,” she said.
“This year we have focussed on fitness and working together as a team which is such a crucial part of the game.
“At the start of the year we aimed to finish in the top two and we finished on top of the ladder so we are already so happy with that.”
A premiership win for the A Grade CDHBU team would end what has been a long drought for the netball club.
“The last time we won a grand final was back in 1993 so to say that we really want this is an understatement,” Wood said.
“Brocklesby Burrumbuttock were last year’s winners and they are a tough side to beat.
“But I am feeling positive and so are our girls.
“We have done the hard yards and we are definitely in it to win it.”
Following several stellar performances from the team this year, one player in particular that cannot go unnoticed is key shooter Rosie Dye.
“Rosie Dye has shot over 750 goals this year which is just phenomenal,” Wood said.
“734 of those were in our home and away game season and she shot an astonishing 40 last week.
“She has had an amazing year and as a coach she is definitely someone I am proud of.”
Coach Wood said regardless of this weekend’s outcome her team should be proud of what has been a great year.
“I am really thankful for my girls that have just given it their all this season,” she said.
“As well as my husband who has been a great support with looking after our two boys which allows me focus on being coach all day on a Saturday.
“I am also really appreciative of the local community; this week shop fronts have been decorated in support of us which is just great.
“That is what it is all about you know and I hope we can get the win for them, as well as our club and ourselves.”
