Power went with regaining premiers Osborne for three quarters before the Cats pulled away in the last quarter to register a 39 point win.
It was all Osborne to start the game as they kicked the first three goals, but with Joel Rippingale and Andrew Ollington starting to win more of the ball the Power hit back with the next three goals to get back into the contest. A late goal to Osborne enabled them to take a 10 point lead into quarter time. The second quarter was all the Power as they played some great football through Shay Rhodes, Sam Burdon, Josh Lewis and Jeremy Stevenson but kicking for goal cost the Power big time with 5 easy misses as the Power could only kick 1.6 enabling Osborne to take a 6 point into half time. An early goal to Brad Talbot leveled the scores but this kicked Osborne into action as they kicked the next 4 goals before the Power led by Sean Hanrahan kicked the final two goals of the quarter to only trail by 11 points at the last change. But the last quarter was all the Cats ast hey slammed on 5 goals to 1 to run out comfortable 39 points victors, 14.13 to 8.10. It doesn’t get any easier for the Power as this weekend they take on premiership favorite Henty at Coreen.
The reserves had a thrilling contest with Osborne going down by 6 points. The Power started well with Michael Kruen, making a welcome return from injury, and Joel Willett controlling the ball to be level with Osborne before a massive torpedo after the quarter time siren by Paul Phibbs enabled the Power to take a 6 point lead. Wes Amor was leading a strong defence and along with Mal Macartney enabled the Power to increase the lead to 10 points by half time. Osborne hit back to lead by 3 points by the last change, Jeremy Boothman tried to lift the Power in the last quarter and when Willett slot home a great goal the Power was in front but the last 10 minutes was all the Cats as they ran out 6 point winners 6.7 to 6.1.
The thirds came up against ladder leaders Osborne and suffered a 57 point loss. The boys were totally outplayed in the first half only managed a point to half time to trail by 54 points. But through the efforts of Madden Lohse , Tim Gilchrist, Jack Wynne and Jay O’Donoghue the boys were able to stay with Osborne in the second half. Nick Kershaw was rewarded for his hard work with a goal as the Power eventually went down 12.5 to 3.2.
The Fourths overcame their biggest challenge this season with a thrilling one point victory over Osborne. The Power was slow out of the blocks as the Cats raced to a 19 point lead by quarter time. Lead by Will Johnston, Andrew Phibbs and Kane Mills the Power slowly got back into the contest as they trailed by 14 points by half time. Youngsters Deklan Yates and Shannon Leahy helped the Power in the third quarter and along with Harley Ralph and Matt Walker enabled the Power to take a one point lead into the last change. The Power was able to hang onto that lead as both sides could only manage a goal each for the quarter as the Power ran out 5.3 to 5.2 winners.
The long drive to Osborne last Saturday was fruitful for both A and B grade netballers. A grade recorded a very solid win over the struggling cats. Holly O'Donoghue's great season continued in defence and the mid court was dynamic as the power shooters in Julie Lavis, Bec Barber and Sophie Hanrahan put the icing on the cake for the whole game. The final score was 41-28. This leaves the girls sitting 6th on the ladder.
B grade recorded a similar win over the young Osborne team. The team is really gelling well as they overran the Cats for a 47-26 win. The only lowlight was the serious ankle injury to Bip Hanrahan which will test the depth of the team in the next few weeks. The girls are currently sitting fifth on the ladder but have some tough games over the next month which will really determine if we are flag contenders or not.
C Grade had a comfortable 18 goal victory over Osborne. Emily Bush again starred for the Power, while youngsters Alicia Leahy and Rachel Hanrahan stood out for the Power as they registered the side collected fourth win, 43 to 25. This win sees the side sit in 7th spot on the ladder.
C Reserve won their 4th game of the season with a hard fought 5 goal win over Osborne. The Power was led by Danielle McLachlan and she had great support from Michelle and Natalie Walker as the girls ran out 39 to 34 winners. This win see the girls move to the top 6.
The Intermediates suffered their third close loss for the season as they went down by 3 goals to Osborne. Grace Kingston was terrific for the Power while Emily Boyle and Brooke Wilson were other good players but it wasn’t quite enough as Osborne won 30 to 27.
The Juniors got onto the scoreboard this week in their game against the third placed Osborne. Jadeyn Renner, Lillian Walton and Julia Delaney all played well for the Power as they were able to register their first goal in three weeks as they went down 36 to 1.
This week we take on Henty at Coreen.
