CDHBU hosted Rennie for the Peter Murphy Cup last Saturday. With two former Coreen league teams resuming their rivalry there promised to be a big crowd and that is exactly what happened. With a jumping castle available for the kids it was a true family day out and bush footy at its best as the Power came out on top and reclaimed the coveted trophy.
Thirds: The thirds under Peter Rippingale had their first practice game of the year and although narrowly defeated, showed plenty of promising signs. Rennie had some much bigger boys on the park but the Power never gave up and came home strongly in falling short by 13 points. More numbers are needed for our thirds and if another player or two arrive they will be a more than competitive outfit.
CDHBU: 9-7-63 lost to Rennie 11-8-74
Goals: T.Gilchrist J. Lavis 2, Cornell Webb, Lohse, Walton, Luke 1 each.
Best: J. Hanrahan, Lohse, Wynne, Lavis, Cornell, Norman.
Reserves: The reserves had their first stand alone hit out and played the preceding two quarters to the seniors. The reserves did well against a Rennie combination which contained quite a few senior players and, had it not been for some inaccurate kicking close to goal, could have eked out a victory. The reserves also showed that they have improved on last season but training is a still a must if the boys wish to give themselves every chance of holding down a spot this year.
CDHBU: 2-3-15 lost to Rennie 4-3-27
Goals: Walker Norman 1 each
Best: B. Lightyear, Raggett, Boothman, Willett, Renner, Lohse.
Seniors: The main game seen the Power prove to too strong for an undermanned Rennie outfit. In blustery conditions, the Power were inaccurate in front of goals but have once again shown that there is dramatic improvement on the previous season. Defence proved to be as strong as ever, allowing only 4 shots on goal, whilst up forward Corey Smith and Sam Burdon shared 7 goals between them. Matt Robinson showed that there are plenty of ruck options whilst giving our onballers first use of the football out the centre. Alex Wallis took plenty of contested marks as did veteran Doug Lavis.
CDHBU 14-11-95 defeated Rennie 1-3-9
Goals: Smith 4 Burdon 3 Lavis 2 Dye Talbot Rippingale Robinson Stevenson 1 each.
Best: Rippingale, Naughtin, Smith, Wallis, Kreun, Lavis, Burdon, Stevenson.
This Saturday the Power head to Tamgambalanga to play Kiewa/ Sandy Creek in what will prove to be real test of where the Power are at. Times and game format will be given at training. A reminder also that this Thursday is a compulsory session at Coreen.
Many thanks to everyone who made the season launch such a successful day.
