The CDHBU players, committee and football department have been working overtime in an effort to regain some respectability in the Hume league.
The players have been repaying that hard work by presenting numbers at pre season that have been the best the Power has seen since joining Hume League, averaging over 30 per session.
It has also been great to see solid numbers getting down to Morris Park to watch coach Brad Talbot put the boys through their paces.
Also pleasing to the club is the signature of tall, key defender Blaize Naughtin. Blaize’s ability to hold down a key position has the club excited and with other notable key position players such as Matt Ross, Andrew Ollington and Matt Robinson, adds plenty of steel down the spine.
The club is also happy to see former best and fairest winner, Shay Rhodes return to the club after a stint playing football for Tyrendarra in the South West League.
Also pleasing is the sight of veteran Doug Lavis who has returned from an injury plagued 2102 with a solid preseason so far. Jarrod Hanrahan has resumed running again after an ankle reconstruction and is aiming to be fit foe the early season.
New arrivals so far are Sam Burdon (assistant coach), Tyson Burdon, Ben Wilson, Alex Dickinson, Corey Smith, Jeremy Stevenson, Josh Lewis, Luke Bryon, Shay Rhodes, Shayne Matthews and Alex Wallis. Tom Moloney graduates to senior football from thirds.
This ensures that there will be plenty of competition for the positions throughout the senior grades.
CDHBU kicks off their 2103 campaign with practice games against Bonnie Doon (at Bonnie Doon) on March 9 and will follow up on March 16 with a game versus Rennie (at Coreen) for the coveted Peter Murphy Cup.
The club will hold its season launch later that night. Buses will run to ensure as many people as possible can attend and entertainment will be provided for the children.
A past players club has been established and players from Hopefield-Buraja, Coreen, Daysdale and Coreen Daysdale United can expect a letter invinting them to join a get together for the past players day on April 27 at Coreen (versus Billabong Crows)
Major raffle tickets are on sale and $10 a ticket will see you have a chance to win a garden package valued at over $6000 that contains a ride on mower, a chainsaw, a lawn mower, a blower vac and other accessories.
