The CDHBU Power had a dirty day when they were totally outplayed by former Coreen league rival the Billabong Crows as they went down by 57 points at Urana. It was a tight opening with only 6 points separating the sides at quarter time. It was the second quarter were the Crows made their move, with only Aaron Ray on his wing and Andrew Ollington in defence the only winners for the Power as the Crows took a 26 point lead into half time. It was a struggle for the Power after the break with Joel Rippingale, Sean Hanrahan and Wes Amor trying hard but with not enough winners the Crows was able to extend the lead in the last two quarters as they ran out 16.11 to 6.14 winners.
The Reserves went down by 54 points in their game against Crows. The Crows were out of the blocks quickly and raced to a 30 point lead by quarter time. It was the experience players of Irwin Macartney, Nick Hogan and Paul Phibbs that tired hard to get the Power back into the game but the Crows increase their lead to 47 points by half time. Justin Robb, Sam Norman and Robbie Dye fought hard in the third quarter as the boys outscored the Crows but the hard work was undone in the last quarter as the Crows ran out 15.8 to 6.8 winners.
The Under 17’s made it 3 wins from 6 games with a 50 point win over the Crows. The boys set the game up in the first quarter with Rhys Macartney and Jay O’Donoghue outstanding as the Power shot to a 30 point lead by quarter time. Jack Wynne and Jakob Hanrahan were winners for the Power as they increased the lead to 37 points at half time. Inaccurate kicking for goal cost the Power a bigger lead as they kicked 2 goals 7 in the third quarter. Lachie Darby, Tom Moloney and Carlton Lohse were all winners for the Power as they ran out 10.17 to 3.2 winners.
The Under 14’s returned to the winners list with a 27 point win over the Crows. The Crows kicked the only goal of the first quarter to lead by 4 points at quarter time. Andrew Phibbs, Cameron Wilson and Jacob Kingston lifted their work rate in the second quarter as the Power took a 9 point lead into half time. The third quarter was an even affair with the Power increasing their lead by only a point by the last change. But with Hayley Ralph, Jesse O’Donoghue, Nick Kershaw and Tom Webb playing well the Power kicked 3 goals to run out 6.4 to 2.1 winners.
Power A grade took time to settle against a much improved Crows side. Crows set Power a task to stop their accurate goalies and limited Powers attackers with their defensive pressure. Power were down 5 goals at half time and knew they had dig deep to take the lead. Brilliant defence from Grace Hanrahan and Sophie Hanrahan turned the game in Powers favour. Karina Collins produced yet another outstanding game in Centre and combined with Brooke Schilg to turn the ball over at every chance. Power steadied with patient play allowing the goalies time to find space. Crows were unable to stop Power in the last quarter, Rosie Dye and Tess Wilson combined beautifully in goals. In a test of character, Power maintained their composure and outscored Crows 10 goals to 3 to take the win with Power 40 to Crows 32.
B grade were determined to atone for their previous slump in form and came out firing, piling on 18 goals in the first quarter. Powers defender, Meghan Hanrahan and Hollie O'Donoghue were outstanding, denying Crows scoring opportunities. Hayley Scott, in her first appearance for B grade, had a great game in Centre. Lauren Harders was brilliant in GA, finding plenty of space in the goal circle. Rikki Caruso was on fire in WA, Crows could do little stop her drives into attack. Power stepped up the pressure in the second half, limiting Crows to 12 goals. Power played with confidence and put together 4 quarters of great netball to run out decisive winners, winning 62 to 26. Well done to Carly Murphy who also took the court for the first in B grade in GS.
C Grade came out strong in the first quarter leading the Crows by 5 goals. Power was strong with their passes and accurate in the goals. The second quarter was a standout with Power keeping the Crows to a 1 goal quarter. In what was quite a physical game, Meg Clohessy played absolutely amazing. Meg controlled the centre court single handily and gained numerous crucial turnovers. Janice Mardling played a fantastic game in GS/GA. Janice had great movement in the goal circle and was shooting very accurately. Leading into the third quarter Power were up by 20 goals. Carly Murphy, after a playing a fantastic quarter in GS for B grade, played a strong and impressive game in GD limiting the Crow’s in the midcourt and the goal circle. Power was 30 goals ahead leading into the fourth quarter. Power never allowed Crows the opportunity to capitalise and control the game and came away with the win, 49 to 16.
C Reserve had the weekend off with the Crows having no side.
Inters set a cracking pace in the first quarter, Power scoring 19 goals to Crows 9. Powers mid court players, Grace Kingston, Emma Wilson and Zoe Wilson combined beautifully. They slowed Crows drive into attack and moved the ball very nicely into our goalies. Power had an 8 goal lead going into the second half and quickly built on their lead. Great defence from Rachel Hanrahan and Sophie Hanrahan kept Crows to just 4 goals for the third quarter. Power continued the pressure on Crows and went on to win comfortably, Power 58 to the Crows 33.
The Juniors had a close game but went down by 4 goals. Grace Martin and Nikita Bainbridge played well for the Power but unfortunately the girls went down 19 to 15.
The improving Mods went down 27 to 7. The girls are playing like a team now with Chloe Gilcrist and the Carroll girls, Joanna and Rebecca, all helping the improving Power .
