Power was outgunned by an impressive Billabong Crows outfit by 90 points on the weekend. With mid fielder Jarrod Hanrahan a late withdrawal, the Power looked lost in the opening quarter was they couldn’t get their hands on the ball. A late Clint Renner goal enable to the Power to get on the scoreboard as they trailed 5.6 to 1.2 at quarter time. After great improvement in the last few weeks, it was back to the poor skill level for the Power as they allowed turn over after turn over to trail 9.7 to 2.5 at half time. Brad Talbot and Sean Hanrahan continued their good seasons with a consistent effort, while Wes Amor was gallant in defence but the Crows were to continue to increase the lead to led 16.12 to 5.7 at the last change. Doug Lavis & Damien Wilson were other contributors for the Power but the lead continued to grow as the Crows ran out winners 21.15 to 7.9
The Reserves were totally outclassed by a strong Billabong Crows side by 128 points. The boys were slow to start, and the Crows had 5 goals on the board very quickly and were able to take a 51 point lead into quarter time. The boys played a lot better in the second & third quarters and Michael Linklater was able to score a goal. The last quarter saw the Crows run away to win 20.16 to 1.2. After backing up from the thirds, Joe Ferguson was outstanding down back playing a superb game for the Power, he was well support by Owen Smith, Wade Thurling and big Wes Oliver. While usually suspects Paul Phibbs & Ian Bock played their normal steady games.
The Under 17’s made it win number 8 with a 76 point win against the Crows. The Power had all the play in the first quarter but didn’t have the kicking boots on as they registered 2.6 to no score at quarter time. The second quarter saw the Power straighten up kicking 5 straight goals to the Crows one to lead at half time 7.6 to 1.0. The Power went on with the job in the second half to register a 13.11 to 2.1 win. Captain Kade Wilson was terrific in the centre, while Alex Dickinson provide a great target up forward with 6 goals. Power A Grade started well against Crows with a great first quarter. Power defenders, Sally Smith and Julie Lavis, made it difficult for Crows to find a clean pass to their goalies. Brooke Schilg, Erin Lavis and Lou Clohessy were outstanding through the mid court. Power had a task to get their game flowing under the pressure from the Crows. Power had a 7 goal lead heading into the second half and was determined to break away from Crows, but to their credit Crows would not give in. Every time Power threatened to break the game open, Crows fought back. Power held on to take a 9 goal win, winning 52 to 43.
Power B grade took the court with confidence and quickly had the game in their control. Crows were unable to break through the formidable defence of Meghan Hanrahan, Grace Hanrahan and Cindy Charlton. Meghan had her 'game face' on and dominated the circle. Tess O'Donoghue was brilliant in WD, taking her opponents out of the game. Karina Collins was everywhere in Centre, taking many impressive intercepts. Power stamped their authority on the game in the second half, allowing Crows to score only 7 goals, while adding 32 goals of their own. Power maintained the pace of the game, and with 4 great quarters of netball had a comfortable win, 61 to 19. The girls are presently in 6th spot and need one more win from the last two games to cement a finals spot.
C Grade returned the winners list with a 24 goal victory against the Crows. With Steph Phibbs on fire in goals and Georgina Ross a tower of strength in defence, Power was able to register their 8th win for the season in the 48 to 24 victory.
C Reserve looked to have gained a finals birth with a strong 33 goal win against the Crows. Paige Rhodes was superb for the Power and with Claire Wilson, stepping up from the Juniors, strong in centre court the Power was able to have a big win 44 to 11. The girls are currently 5th with two game to go and take on 4th placed Lockhart this week in what could be a preview to the finals.
The Intermediate’s have sewn up a top two spot for the finals with a hard fought 8 goal win over the Crows. In a high standard game the Crows took it up to the Power never giving in. Sophie and Erica Hanrahan held tight in defence picking off any loose passes and intercepting brilliantly. The centre court players battled hard all day with Caz Svarc making it hard for her opponent to get clear possession and combined well with Beth Chester and Rachel Hanrahan to feed the goal shooters. Hannah McDonald and Tess Wilson were on fire in the goals shooting accurately giving their opponents very few opportunities to rebound. The Power came away winning 41 to 33.
The Juniors won their 13th straight match with a comfortable 25 goal win against the Crows. Brooke Wilson and Elise Norman were the stars for the Power as the girls cemented a top two birth for the finals and a week off in the first week with a 46 to 21 victory.
