CDHBU Power had a poor day against Murray Magpies with the three junior netball sides the only winners on the day.
CDHBU Seniors had a terrible day to go down by 125 point to Murray Magpies. With Jarrod Hanrahan & Matt Ross late withdrawals because of injuries, the Power seemed unsettled with the Magpies scoring the first 3 goals. But goals to coach Charlie Cay and Brad Talbot got the Power back into the game before the Magpies steadied to lead 5.5 to 2.2 at quarter time. The injury front only got worse for the Power with Joel Rippingale & Sean Hanrahan both going down and the Magpies were able to blow the Power away in the second quarter to lead at half time 13.9 to 5.4. With Damien Talbot going down the Power was left with no bench as Brad Talbot gave his all and was helped by John & Nick Conroy but with too many players down the Magpies continued to grow the lead to lead 19.13 to 7.7 at the last change. Clint Renner with 4 goals and Corey Smith with 2 goals made the most of the Power ventures forward as the Magpies ran away with game to win 28.18 to 9.7.
The Reserves went down by 53 points in their game against the Magpies. With the Thirds having a bye, 4 thirds players helped out but the Power was off to a slow start due to haphazard disposal with the Magpies leading by 13 point at quarter time. With Wes Amor & Paul Phibbs getting plenty of the ball and Marc Playford being extremely dangerous up forward the Power was able to keep with the Magpies but still trail at half time 4.4 to 2.3. Goals to Amor & Dustyn Nixon straight after the break had the Power on level terms, but that was the end of the Power as the Magpies running game took over. Tom Moloney continued his great form from last week and other young players in Michael Stephens & Madden Lohse battled hard but the Magpies ran out 15.6 to 6.7 winners.
The Under 17’s didn’t have a game.
The Under 14’s lost their second match in a row going down by 14 points to Magpies. The Power started brilliantly with Jordan Lavis, Jack Wynne, Kane Mills and Jacob Kingston on fire to kick the first three goals of the game to be leading by 18 points at the first change. But the Magpies were able to get back into the game as the kicked 4 goals to 2 in the second quarter to only trail by 7 points at the long change. The Power struggled after the long break as they were unable to put any score on the board with the defence lead by Cam Wilson, Lochie Darby & Matt Walker were unable to hold the Magpies as they went onto win 7.7 to 5.5.
Netball
A grade played a well polished team in Magpies, they played a fast game and had piled on 20 goals in the first quarter. Power was slow to react to the pace set by Magpies and game was soon slipping away. Julie Lavis started in defence and battled hard all game, getting some turnovers. Grace Hanrahan stepped into goal defence and took some telling intercepts. Sophie Hanrahan and Sharni O'Donoghue both played their first A grade game for the year and were impressive, well done girls. Power kept working hard the whole game and managed to match Magpies in the last quarter but went down 29 to 69.
Power B grade were on fire in the first quarter, scoring 15 goals to Magpies’s 9. Power's defensive pressure was brilliant and created plenty of turnovers and deflections. Magpies came back in the second quarter to lead by 1 goal at half time. Lauren Harders and Lou Clohessy are combining beautifully in attack, their opponents find it hard to keep up them. Tess O'Donoghue was awesome in wing defence, making her wing attack earn every pass. Carmel Kingston and Tam Lavis worked very well together in defence. The lead changed at each break, Power went into the last quarter with slight lead but Murray capitialised on every opportunity and went on to win by 3 goals, 42 to 39.
C Grade suffered their second loss in a row going down by 38 goals to the Magpies. The girls struggled from the start against a very good Magpies combination, Leah Phibbs tried hard in attack for the Power and Sue Wynne was good in centre court but the Power went down 21 to 59.
C Reserve also went down, this time by 19 goals. Evie Barbour in centre court continued her good form to be the Power’s best and Casey Webb was strong in defence but it wasn’t enough for the Power as they went down 23 to 44.
The Intermediates made it 7 straight victories with a hard fought 8 goal win. With Sophie Hanrahan on fire in defence & Tess Wilson shooting everything in attack, Power made a great start and had a 14 goal to 6 lead at the first change. The second quarter was an even one and then the Magpies were able to fight their way back into the game with the Power only leading by 3 goals at the last change. The girls were asked to put in a big last quarter and to their credit all the team stood up, to come away with a 42 to 34 victory.
The Juniors took on the top of the ladder Murray Magpies and they came away with a terrific team orientated, 44 to 10 victory. Claire Wilson and Brooke Wilson in attack, along with Lucy Bartlett in defence, all played solid games. Sarah Chandler and Alicia Leahy led strongly from the centre. The girls combined well to produce some great netball.
The Mods started the day well for the Power with girls have a good 11 to 1 goal victory against the Mapgies. All the girls have stepped up this week with some great work with Nikitia Bainbridge, Chloe Gilcrist and Ella Kingston named in the best.
