CDHBU started the season with the long trek to Coleambally, and came away with 4 wins and a draw in the netball and a win with the Under 14 footballers.
In the Netball the Mods got the Power off to a great start with a 11 to 2 victory against the Blues with Tiarna Smith, Elly Brewster & Elise Norman the best.
The Juniors continued on the winning form with a 29 to 3 victory. Sophie & Grace Hanrahan played well along with new player Taylor Dickinson.
The Intermediated started off with a win via a forfeit.
C Grade also started the season with a 28 to 14 win. New Player Amy Leauifano was great in Goal Defence and was well supported by Paige Rhodes as Goal Shooter, while Carly Murphy also played well in the centre.
B Grade took a while to gel but were coming home hard in their 34 to 39 loss to Coleambally. Sharni O’Donoghue made the step up from the Under 16 netball to star in the centre, while Grace Hanrahan played well at Wing Defence. New Player Sam Danswan also played well as Goal Shooter. A Grade started their season off with a thrilling 43 all draw. The ageless Lou Clohessy played a great game in Wing Defence, while Karina Collins fought on hard against a much taller opponent in Goal Defence. New Dookie recruit Danielle McMillan also played well as Goal Shooter.
In the football the Under 14’s got the day off to a good start with a 79 point victory. Mark O’Donoghue boy share the ball around well with 9 goal kickers out of the 12 goals kicked. Captain Damien Wilson started the season well and he was well supported by Jacob Bainbridge, Tim Gilchrist, Ryan Mills and Jordan Lavis.
The Under 17’s were undermaned as they went down by 102 points against Coleambally. The boys battle hard with Kade Wilson playing well, Corey Smith kicked all three goals while Shannon Healy, Luke Murphy, Tom Maloney & Justin Roach were in the best players.
The reserves were also short of numbers but with the help of three thirds battled away manfully to go down by 20 points to the Blues. Some wayward kicking in the last quarter could have got the boys closer. Adam Wright was great in the ruck, while Ben Nixon played well in this return to the club at full back. Mark Tilders presented well at centre half forward and Chris Healy tried hard at Centre half back.
A young and inexperienced Senior side took the field with 6 players playing their first senior game for the Power. The players put on great pressure in the first quarter but poor kicking enable Coleambally to go to quarter time leading 4.8 to 1.0. The second & third quarter saw the boys take it right up to the Blues with Joel Willett & Ryan Rhodes battling hard against Andrew McGowan. Steve Talbot was doing a great job at centre half back, while Darwin recruit Darren Damaso gave drive from the half back line. Aaron Ray provided run on his wing and Jordan Wilson & Harri Downing were fighting hard in the back pockets as Coleambally lead 10.13 to 5.5 at three quarter time. The last quarter saw the Blues dominate as they added 8 goals to only a point as they ran out 88 point victors.
This week sees the Power travel to Holbrook to take on the Brookers.
